  • Robin Cook Cues

What do folk think of them? Does anyone own one? I'm already thinking about my next cue (oh dear, TSF has put a bug in mind) partly because the queues for anything decent are horrendous. A very knowledgeable and trustable person suggested that a Trev was pretty much the best cue known for a combination of playability, quality and finish, not forgetting value but the list is huge. Can anything out there match a Trev, e.g. a Cook cue?

    * I was also thinking O'min, stunning cues. But as someone pointed out, it's a long way away, language barrier, and some things don't translate into written words easily. Gorgeous cues though, wish I spoke Thai.

The saying 'Good things come to those who wait' springs to mind. The fact of the matter is if you want a top quality custom order handmade cue you're going to have to wait. Besides, how often do you hear a bad review of a TW, MW etc.?

TW is the benchmark for cue quality as I've implied above. Higgins wouldn't have ordered otherwise. Trev came on TSF and manfully apologised for not updating people and being a bit out of touch, which says a lot about the quality of the person in my book. He doesn't seem to be up his own chuff either, reading between the lines.

Most importantly, the cue has to be honest, made in Britain if that's what it says, made elsewhere if that's what it says. If it says it's made of certain materials constructed in a certain way (because I'm one for asking questions), it needs to be Ronseal in it's actuality. I'm open minded and love some foreign cues as well as some British cues. So yeah, Trev, O'min, LP, they all seem to fit the bill on that front. It's not just about the cue, it's about the experience I think I'm trying to say; life is experiential. I don't mind waiting too long, if there's no choice, and that's why I'm posting now, so I can possibly have a cue for Xmas 2013 and judging by what JVC says, that's optimistic unless I get a fast wriggle on.

Anyway, what about Robin Cook Cues?

If I order one now JVC, what's the deposit? And can I change specs (not timbers) along the way, e.g. tip size, butt size, weight, length, balance.

              PP:

There have been many reviews and comments posted here on Robin Cook. I've never seen a bad one. I've owned 2 Robin Cook cues and have easily sold them both on. His prices are pretty good, similar to Trevor I guess and his quality is excellent just like TW, MW, JPU, Coutts, Tony Wilshaw, the newer guys on here, etc., etc.

The bottom line is any gifted cuemaker can make you a cue to your exact specs and you still might not be able to get on with it. If I had all this cue buying to do over again and I lived in the UK, I would go see Stu at Green Baize and try every cue he had near to my specs as that way I'd be certain to come away with a cue I could use. He usually has about 200-300 in stock so you have to find one that suits you and they are very good quality (he is also up-front about them being made in Thailand but he inspects each and every one before they go into stock).

Not to criticize the excellent cuemakers on here at all, as they all make quality cues however a player might not get on with a custom cue and it's either use it for 6 months and get used to it or sell it on and keep searching for the 'ONE' cue (ask me, I know about this).

No deposit required - 14 month wait.

E mail now to confirm the order and he will contact you just before he begins work to confirm you still wish to go ahead. full payment required shortly before cue is completed.

He quoted me for my cue spec including delivery and two extensions - £422 although that price may rise if his costs go up from now to completion.

I actually ordered thro a 3rd party as he already had some cues on order, trying to cut down on waiting time , i havn't actually paid anything yet, and i wouldn't advise on changing specs after the initial order as may confuse things/pee him off lol, i say it would be best to email Robin directly for deposit required etc (if any) and i'm sure he would give you a likely starting date for your cue, in which you may be able to finalise your specs within that timeframe

To be honest particle physics. Stu Green at GB is your best bet. You would not get a better cue from any cue maker. My honest opinion. I got 2 of his cues and they rank amonst the top 3 cues i ever played with let alone owned.

Cheers for the reply buddy, that concurs with what Terry has wisely said. What were your other top two cues mate?

You can't go wrong with Robin, I had 4 of his cues and have 3 more on order, all were done exactly as I wanted them. And I had special requests for shaft stiffness, number of arrows, etc. Splicing is perfect, balance is great, cues are silky smooth. And always I got exactly what I was asking for.
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table
                        BTW vucko means wolfie

Old TW mast cue. And my first custom UT. I am lucky to have all 3 and have seriously stopped looking for cues as i think these 3 will see me till the end of my days.
