  • Thinking of getting a John Parriss. Give me your experiences with the cues!

Like the title suggests, i am very much considering the purchase of a Parris cue. But id like to know a couple of things before i buy one.
first and for-most, do they play well over all?
is his shaft quality to the stadard that he insists they are on his website?
    do they throw?
    etc
thanks for your time guys and gals

No 2 cues ever play the same, from any maker, you pays your money and takes your chance, but can't hurt to try
Always best to try out 1st before buying, but not possible if you are going down the custom made route

I've got a JP ultimate it's the best thing I've ever held in my hand! Except the girlfriend obviously (looks over shoulder) lol you won't be disappointed mate. I've never struck a ball so beautifully as this cue allows me too even the sound of striking has changed to a positive and sure strike. My shaft is amazing and the cue well errr where was I? Seriously good but why not take a trip down there. If there good enough for the top players then you haven't got any worries, I found John to be a very approachable guy and willing to chat about anything you like. He is very patient and honest. Best thing I've ever done for my game is put my money and trust into this mans hands.

The fact that many of the top players play with a parris speaks for itself really. Other cue makers claim their cues are the best but do their cues really play well or are they just pretty ornaments?. The top players really would know a good cue and wouldn't play with anything less.

I come from Hong Kong and having tried some of JP cues including ultimate before I bought my Will Hunt.

Not sure the quality of JP selling in England but as one could easily got from comments in many forums (including TSF) that it's not that worthy. Apart from the ultimate, other models actually are mass produced (at least certain processes) which you could tell from how many JP in the market that could not be hand-made by John alone. Similar results from the JP I tried before. There are so many JP sold to China and JP is actually a brand but not a cue maker especially in China.

I do believe John is a top cue maker but he may not have spent much time on cues other than those provided to the pros or ultimate. However, I also agree that one should go to try it out instead of guessing.

Why would an ultimate play better than any other cue, or what makes it play better?
Harder than you think is a beautiful thing.

the reason the pros play wiv Parris cues is cos they get them for free

This is absolute rubbish. Years ago when John was building his reputation he did offer to make replica cues for some top name players of that time, it was good business sense to try and get some of the top pros to use his cues. Like all players though only a handful actually did convert and start using his cues.
However I happen to know a number of lower ranked players who have Parris cues and they certainly didn't get them for free, the reason a lot of players go to him is purely because he knows what a player wants and has great experience of producing what they want. The majority of players, particularly those outside the top 16 that use his cues paid for them, fact.

I wouldn't say that the Ultimate cue would play better than a certain other cue as that is subjective to the person using the cue. However in all likelyhood if you buy one I would say its almost certain to live up to your expectation because these shafts are set aside as being as good as you can possibly get in a cue shaft. That is why the waiting time is so long because they are premium in every sense, perfect grain, even points, balance and feel etc, also the buyer can specify the amount of arrows or other requirements which also takes time to find the right shaft. That is what you are paying for.

I don't think that's true? I know a few pros that have paid for their Parris cues? Maybe a very select few might have. Who do you know has definitely had one free? And how do you know this?

Does John finish the customs or only ultimates? I'm also thinking of ordering a special but if it turns out he didn't have any hand in it may put me off somewhat
