      this may be wrong but.......

      if it is a chip out of the cue it will not work. dings and dents work because the wood has been compressed and the heat and moisture make it expand back to its original state.

        Not really a photography pro so please bear with me. Hopefully you're able to see where's the small chip off. Its just above the little orange coloring.

            Yeah its a chip off. I thought this considered as a "dent". Haha. I think I got this while using the rest at the usual snooker place I play at.
