  • Choice of front splice...?????

I am building a cue for a mate, full cocobolo butt over ash shaft.
He wants a front splice and has left it to me, so........
What do you think...A very orangey red burr with a thin or thick maple veneer OR A nice piece of tulip with a thin or thick maple veneer????

He doesnt want it plain cocobolo, ive tried but he wants some bling (hes a nob)!!

I always think a whole cocobolo butt works best just on its own without any splices, as splices always tend to conflict rather than contrast with the grain pattern & colour of cocobola so never seem to look right, unless maybe split with something plain, maple, ebony etc, almost like a plain ebony with coco splice and thick maple veneer done in reverse if that makes sense.......lol

            Choice of front splice...?????

If you have any, I think a dark piece of olive with a thick rippled maple veneer would compliment that coco.

            Otherwise yeah, the burr.

Why don't you let him look through the photos of the other cues you've made to get some ideas of which types of woods he likes?

a darker piece of cocobolo to the one used on the butt with maple veneer.

I've still got some of this deep red coloured coco if you want to try it as the front splice. Might be a complimentary contrast if such a thing exists lol

It would look lovely with a maple veneer.
