Do extension joints "change the hit" of a cue?

Was considering getting one put in my burwat champion as its now my main cue, i recall a few posts on here saying adding an sd joint or similar can change the hit of a cue. Is this a guaranteedchange or something only some are experiencing?

Also does anyone know if there can be a degree of difficulty fitting one to a burwat, was told a while back because of the badge being inset into the face splice sometimes the lathe can split through due to the wood being thinner, then the facesplice has to de redone.
