just got my cue back from craftsman after i needed a new ferruel and tip fitting, it just got me thinking about the cues that other people have.

Mine is a Robert Osborne Blue Plate, 1 Piece, machine spliced, 58" and 18oz with 9.5mm tip. Shaft is ash and butt ebony.
But I´m going to buy a new one this year cause the cue is a little bit to short for me.

I finally received my cue from Craftsman 2 days ago and I have to say that I'm really pleased with it. It's very good quality, nice finition, well balanced. The shaft is stiff with just the piece of whippyness needed for spin. And the wood appears to be very good quality too.

I really recommend Craftsman if you wanna have good quality for money.

just wanted to ask you about your 20oz pather cue.......isn't 20oz a bit on the heavy side? I know everyone has there preference on cue weight but how does it play?

I have about 8 different cues all with varying weights and I have found that it is easier to get position using a lighter cue. Has anyone else had this experience?

I also prefer a light cue although I'm not sure it really improves positional play, I think I'm just used to it. I used to play with a 19 oz cue. My cue is around 15-16oz. It's an old maple cue at 58", with a 9mm tip. I'm not sure who made it but I suspect it might be a traditional Dufferin cue. It has pointed splices that have been handworked into the cue and also four splices of ebony that the last owner (distastefully!) had put on.

Yeah, I know, it's a bit heavy, but this is my preference. My previous cue was way too light for me, around 17.5oz. A friend of mine has a Cuecraft Marksman, 8.5mm tip, 21 oz (yes, he plays snooker with it! lol and successfully!) and I really like it. Other mates have cues no less than 19 oz, and I like that. That's why I opted for this weight.

For the moment, I'm still getting used to it so it's hard to make a definite judgement but so far, it's been really pleasant to play with. For the positionnal, as you talk about it, it's a real joy. You just push the cue through and the cue ball goes where you want, effortless. The problem, with such weight, is to learn how to get full control of the cue....because it delivers more energy than a standard 18-19oz piece of wood.

What is the grain like in the shaft Erwan. Does it have a lot of or few arrows and is the grain tight or open, evenly spaced or not? Sorry for firing so many questions at you but I'm trying to get as much info out of people who have had new cues as possible, just to see what the general standard is out there!
