What Cue do you have?

I currently have a 18.5oz cue but I have gone for something quite light after using some older cues that seem to give give you more close control.
I'm not short of cue power so I don't think I need the extra weight you're talking about!

What is the grain like in the shaft Erwan. Does it have a lot of or few arrows and is the grain tight or open, evenly spaced or not? Sorry for firing so many questions at you but I'm trying to get as much info out of people who have had new cues as possible, just to see what the general standard is out there!

No pb mate!
The shaft has a fine grain. I like it. There are several arrows (eight, in fact) but they are well in line with the axis of the cue. I mean, when cueing, there aren't any arrows in contact with my skin (on the bridge), they are above, so I can see them, as a helper for sighting, which is perfect.
I think the shaft is very good. Arrows are split in two groups but in each of them, they are evenly spaced. Hope that helps!

Well, it's true, if you have a very good cue action, coupled with good cue power, then a lighter cue can be the best choice.

I'm happy with my power but my contol is a bit dodgy so I hope the new cue will help!

I'm not keen on the grain of Ash, I can find it distracting.
That's why I went for a maple this time. I'm already fussy I would have had to pick the ash and have the arrows the opposite side from the plate to happy with it, easier to go with maple!
I know plenty of people like the grain though!

Cheers Erwan, I'd like to see a picture of your new cue, and you too Watford if you have the opportunity?

The cue power thing is really down to timing but I think altering the weight of the cue that you have used for a long time can be difficult. My cue is 17.75 oz and I've tried 16oz cues and 19.5 oz cues and I wasn't comfortable with either. I'm very settled now at just under 18ozs and any other future cue would be made to exactly the same weight. The game is difficult enough as it is without drastically changing the weight or dimensions of your cue.

Watford, was your previous cue Ash? If so then be prepared to struggle a bit with your new maple cue at first. I presume that because Trev made it that it will be a stiff shaft because you need a firm shaft with Maple as it tends to throw off more if its flexible.
You might feel like its lifeless at first but like I said be prepared to work on your cue action and give it time because it does react a lot differently to ash.

Yeah my current cue is ash; I know it will be different but I have borrowed maple cues in the past a liked most of them!
Figers crossed I was hoping the cue would come on Friday but no joy!

Two of my mates had princes they both snapped!
One cracked down the shaft and the other the ferrule broke off!
The ferrule one has been repaired!
That one was a great player!

lucky i still taking care of my prince however i think i put alot of raw linseed oil on cue....like 3-4 times a week-(bc the cue is a bit dried) hope it doesn't make the cue become soft .

Previously had been using a 1pc Parris Ultimate for 5 years (unique number 500). If anyone is thinking of buying an Ultimate make sure you discuss the taper with John. Mine came with a very thick taper which didn't suit me.
