      hi as promised the details,
craftsman 147 or might be panther cant remember but most probley the 147.
Its custom made with a minibutt, the details 1 piece 56" long 18 onze 10mm tip, i got this 5 years ago.
im not very good at snooker so i cant remeber what made choose that setup. all i know is im 5ft 5/6in so i need shorter cue, i think the reason i got 18 onze is because i convinced myself that a heavier cue would make up for loss in waight, also i convinced myself that with a heavier cue i wouldnt need to hit the ball as hard so i could have a better cue action. like i said i only guessed with no help or help from someone who knows better.
      was i correct with guesswork?

There is a school of thought that says you can push a light cue faster so can hit the ball harder!
I think that heavy cues do a little more work for you on some shots but can be a little less easy to control, especially close up.
I wouldn't say that 18oz was very heavy; I'd say that was around average. My last cue was 18.5oz and a bit heavy, my new one 16oz and is very light!
I’ve got mates with 19 an 20oz cues!

Thanks Erwan, it looks very good quality indeed. The Ebony looks to be nice, dark and grain looks even. The splicing also looks spot on, for value for money I don't think you could have got a better deal anywhere.

Yeah, I agree. I am really happy with it. I still have to find a decent tip to gain the maximum feeling, but the cue feels very good.

So was it second hand then?
An old £16 club cue is probably worth more as a player than alot of the tat about at the moment!
How much would it take for you to part with it?

It was a cue off the rack in the club i use 2 play , so i bought it off the owner , str8 as anything and i wudnt part with it... all these fancy cues nowadays with stats that are like somehting NASA wud produce are useless if u havent got the natural ability to pot a ball lol , know guys with extensions , ball markers , fancy glasses and tons of other stuff and their highest break is about 40.

Previously had been using a 1pc Parris Ultimate for 5 years (unique number 500). If anyone is thinking of buying an Ultimate make sure you discuss the taper with John. Mine came with a very thick taper which didn't suit me.
Hello apa147, I consider having a cue custom made 58.25" long, the same as yours. I wanted to go for 59" at first, then reconsidered and figured that 58.5" was perfect and now I have come to the conclusion that 58.25" would be best. Meanwhile I even give some thought to the idea of going for the more common length of 58".

This thread seems to confirm that anything above 58" is really unusual. And 58" cues are readily available, no need for custom making. Do you think that 1/4 inch makes any noticable difference?

Maybe this thread would be even more interesting if not only the cue length but also the height of the cue's owner was revealed. I'm 1.83 meters tall and I think that the 58.25" length would allow me to grab that butt with my entire hand, whereas the little finger might be almost behind the butt if I'd take it 58" long. The question is: would that harm my cuing action? I think the little finger isn't really used anyway.

Well,... I guess I'm drifting off topic here...

What I actually wanted to ask: What do you mean by "very thick taper"? I thought that the taper describes the shape of the cue (such as conical) and not its thickness?

I thought that snooker cues are always conically shaped. Is yours shaped differently?

If by taper you mean butt diameter, then I guess it is not possible to make that one to a certain value, if you expect the cue to have a certain length, weight, butt length and wood it is made of. Since all these parameters are interdependent: reducing the butt diameter will result in reduced weight, for instance.

Hmm, anyhow, I would be grateful if you could explain what exactly I should discuss with my cue smith when ordering a cue.
