  • Exquisite cues?

    Hello peeps,

I was wondering about the exquisite cues sold by raymo147.

Could anyone who happens to own one of his cues tell me what he or she thinks about it?

I'm curious, since he seems to make cues of high quality, and yet his prices are not nearly as high as those of other cuemakers. Does it have something to do with the grain patterns not being "perfect"? Because honestly, I don't care about not having perfect chevrons, just want to find a high quality cue that feels good and doesn't cost fortunes, since my budget does not allow me to buy a MW, TW or such.

    Cheers.

Basically for someone just starting out it doesnt matter how good you are you need to price them "cheaper" so as to get them sold and get your name around as being good quality and value for money and then once you have enhanced your rep enough you can then increase price to go along with the market.

100% right frazz especially when your competing against the value of the likes
of Green Baize Cues and stuff.
I've got to give value also and hope my reputation will grow in time.

I bought this one start of September. Cannot fault it.

        http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...e-Cue-For-Sale!!

So I've been using it for a few weeks now, it's really nice, plays well, nice hitter, a few other folk have tried it and agree. In comparison to my brothers parris, shaft may not be what some would call pretty, but i like it, the different things going on with the grain appeal to me rather than rows of 'perfect' arrows. Most important thing though is that it plays well and thats what matters. I'm not the most amazing player but it just feels right. My brother said that he would be happy and using it if the tip was smaller (i asked raymo to up it to a 10mm). If you are thinking of getting one when it comes available then i would say its worth a gamble. One more thing, people may think im talking crap here but people have said it's the smoothest cue they have tried, this is not the first time I've heard this, someone on this forum has mentioned this in a thread after they bought one too.....

I have to say I by no means doubt that yours cues are of high quality raymo! I was mainly wondering about the difference in price between seemingly same looking cues (spec wise and the outer appearance). I can't say I don't like beautifully spaced straight chevrons, but obviously my first priority is to get a good cue. Therefore, I was thinking if the price variation in plain ebony butt ash shaft cues was because of cosmetic reasons or if the ash actually is of better quality (enhancing your experience of striking the ball!)

And raymo, I'm sure your reputation will grow, some nice looking cues you make!

              Thanks for the info joe!

By the way, does anyone have a good advice on how to check a one piece cue for straightness? Because as far as I know you can't test if it's straight by rolling it. And on the other hand looking down the shaft of the cue to test for straightness may be difficult if the grain pattern isn't straight..

Don't look at the grain !! just look at the shape of the cue itself

Turn the shaft while sighting down it, like looking through the iron sights on a rifle.

                    Thanks for the advice guys!

And jrc, excuse me if I expressed myself wrong, what I meant was not that I look at the grain when i look for straightness, I meant that the grain pattern can be a distraction when doing so, sometimes giving the illusion of the shaft not being straight when it actually is

Yeah it can be that's true, but if it looks straight that's good enough

If it doesn't roll straight you don't want it.
