Wow !! ADR 10&1/2 thousand posts you would certainly know that this has been tried before (but I didn't) although I should of probably assumed it but what the hell just trying to have bit of fun/entertainment here and get a feel what people think especially from those who've been fortunate enough to have tried a range of talent and craftmanship from UK cuesmiths. Definitely not looking for the perfect cue with this thread. I do agree with the other comment "as only as good as the player behind it" but only to a point -- take for example a gifted violinist playing an everyday violin then give him a Stratavarius just by the nature of the instrument he's going to sound better, I think the same applies to a cue that feels better it will improve your game, do certain cuesmiths make cues that feel better overall than others? I guess that's one aspect . Then there's the cosmetic and overall quality of the cuesmiths craftmanship, what I found interesting was the comment from 147alltheway about Trevor White's cues which he gave his vote to because of their beauty yet regrettably he didn't get the "feel" part from the cues ---- SO ADR147 can you throw me a bone here? you say you have the answer would it be a blend of these 2 attributes of a cue that would define "best" or am I barking up the wrong tree lol PS we're up to 45 replies now on this little survey and Trevor White is clearly at the front of the pack so far

Reply to Steve Day , I don't totally disagree with your logic but you got to start somewhere right? perhaps the title of the post could of been written a little different however my original question in the post was if coin wasn't an issue what UK cue would you desire the most yet my title was "who's the best cuemaker in the UK" and I was asking for personal experience so the thread was perhaps a tad ambiguous that said I think the survey isn't without merit, perhaps I should of started off with what defines "best" for the purposes of the poll but I didn't ,where there's merit here is a lot of the guys that have responded have tons of experience, been long term contributors to the forum and have tried a lot of different UK custom and factory cues through out their snooker lives so I value their opinions many have their dream cue, some have been searching for years to find "the one", some are avid collecors, what was also eye opening was some of these wait times some folks are enduring + 18 months for a JPU with the passion still there.Last edited by allanr5; 30 October 2012, 03:51 AM.

I'm fairly sure Mike Wooldridge is a century break maker? TW, JP I'm not sure about. Jim plays, Karl plays, Jason plays. Correct me if I'm wrong? :snooker:"You have to play the game like it means nothing, when in fact it means everything to you" Steve Davis.

I've never played a game of competitive snooker in my life. Not even local league. That's mainly based on the fact that there was no local league when I was growing up and even finding a table you were allowed to play on was hard. They were all in CIU clubs and the local coffin dodgers gave you hard time about getting on the table. It was "their" table. When I do have a game now and then I can knock in the 30's or on a good day a 50 or two. Top break is 84. Was 66 before that but they are the only 2 over 60 I've ever had. Maybe get 15 frames played a year. Again mainly down to geography.
Pool. Most break and dishes consecutively is 4. Play county on and off if my life lets me around work and family commitments. Won a few local tournaments but nothing on the national scene. Would enter more comps but seen as everything seems to be played at Yarmouth these days it's a big commitment to travel 7 hours each way and find digs for the weekend.
Anyways. That's me. Karl Craik.
Interested to hear about the other whittlers on here?

This thread is about touchy subject of who makes the best cue. If you have got a cue maker who makes thousands of cues, then you are going to get more answers for that cue maker, because the odds are greater. ( Maybe you should ask, who has made bad cues.L.O.L.). I like a cue maker who makes his cues by hand and I pick the shaft, so I would have to go for Dave Coutts, because they are hand made, but he can't make many, because they are hand made and he is such a perfectionist in all he does. I know the pros have been talking about his cues and I know one has put an order in (and he's paying for it,) but at the end of the day, it's your decision. What one person likes, someone else dislikes.otherwise it would be a boring world.
So for me, it's got to be Dave Coutts Cues.
