Well we're getting back on track and yes my original intent was for hand made or customized hand made UK cues but I didn't exclude the UK factory production ones just to be fair, they didn't affect the survey much anyway, --- so if you want to support brand loyality , support your local favourite cuesmith or state the cue of your dreams pipe up ! --- I'll run this poll 'till the weekend, then I'll do up a spreadsheet from the results/opinions you guys have provided and post it and see how it went Thanks to everyone so far that has responded I appreciate you taking the time for me to do this little project Cheers Rob

I've got my first cue made in the UK around 2 years back, and it is by Robin Cook. Haven't owned any other, so it will have to be RC for now, no complains at all

To Choice --- well that comment sure threw me for a loop !! so in a nutshell your saying "handmade" to you means only the use of hand tools to make the cue no power tools ? because you can't just single out a lathe, a bandsaw , tablesaw, electric drills, sanders, planers polishers the've got to go too I may be wrong but I don't think the use of a lathe disqualifies a cuesmith from saying his cues are handmade JHMO PS (Warning ! Slippery Slope maybe dead ahead)

Some cue makers, no names given, buy in prepared shafts.(FINISHED) So they are not prepared by their hand, by that cue maker

A touchy subject indeed... This always seem to happen whenever there is a thread on "Who is the best ___"... it often gets progressively worse when "What constitutes a handmade cue" gets drawn into the fire too... Lol.

Never a straightforward answer, not sure if there can ever be a correct or a universally agreed one... everybody thinks they have the prettiest wife at home... or something to that effect anyway...

Handmade UK cues from the top makers sure don't come cheap, the exchange rates alone is a killer. But I really wanted to see for myself what the hoo hah is about. So after much reading about cues on this forum, I shortlisted a few potential cue makers and finally decided on a Trevor White cue.

What gave me the final impetus to purchase was that I had the chance to knock a few balls around with one. The cue felt good and looked the part, it had nice clean lines and the smoothest finish I have felt on a cue. Looking back, the real reason, I have to confess, is perhaps a bit of vanity in me; my cue has to be amongst the best.

But bear in mind that cues play differently. It could be a most beautiful cue, perfectly made with the best raw materials, but if you don't like how it hits, then it's pretty useless to you as a snooker player. So another factor you may want to consider, especially for an overseas buyer, is the holding value and the ease of offloading, in case you can't get used to it.

              All the best!!

Thank you for your kind words... I hope you'll find the right one... but really, all the top cue makers can make great cues, that's how they earned their reputation; by being very good at what they do...
