Over painting of splices

Leave the splices as they are, it gives it character and originality and detracts nothing from playability, all that needs now is a good finish and grateful owner.

Well i have finally got around to finishing this powerglide purist cue, It has come up ok! I completely refinished the whole cue including re graining the cue then oil finish. I could not alter the length of splicings to get them all to be level as this would take the ce out of round, basically you cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear!!! The only way to sort the splicing would be to resplice completely as the glue lines are quite thick and this leads to poor undefined splice tips, but the customer was happy as it looked and felt far better than before, so the bottom line is if you have a cue that has been overpainted that you want to refinish think twice before going ahead as this time we was lucky but another time there could be filler, woodworm cracks or a beautiful butt under there

wow looks 100 times better that dave. hope my hunt cue comes back like that with sparkling finish

i was unable to save the logo on the maple plate as the lacquer was that thick it would look silly, but there is now the option for the customer to have his name burned in with a pyorograthy iron or any design, ive done all sorts in the past

I made a pyrography iron for my friend (well I made the base control unit and bought the pen add I didn't want her hands catching fire... The hot wire kind work brilliantly and I love pyrography just pity I can't draw.

Never thought of making a pyrographic cue plate before though
