I've been using the elk tip for months but now i need a new tip so i thought i'd try the pool baron tip... tried it last night and it seems way too soft so im changing it to a buffalo diamond plus. Are these softer or harder than the elk tips? Im guessing about the same? Also nearly everyone on the pool team in my local seem to have sanded their tips down a lot... is this a bad thing? Cheers

Just to add i don't see the point of sanding down tips to the extreme, unless you love changing tips frequently!Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

Personally I leave as much of the thickness as possible.
Only rub down enough to key for gluing.
Buffalo Diamond Plus, I would say about the same as an Elk and can be a nice tip.
On my pool cue I am currently using a Pool Baron soft, which plays very well and I do like it but has needed attention a few times.
I am planning to replace it with a Brunwick Blue Diamond from the 1990s that ADR found at the back of his store roomUp the TSF! :snooker:

Thats what i was using last night the pool baron soft. I found it softer than what im used to. Lads from the pub were testing the tip and they said "i dont know how anyone can play with a tip so soft like that". Whats the advantages with having a soft tip over a hard tip... or is it just the personal feel thing?
I did notice that back spin was a lot easier though

yep, that is what I think as well and the reason why I went for a soft (some would say very soft) tip. Cue ball response seems much easier to achieve.
But I have come to the piont where I dont want to have to fix it as frequent as I am.
So I am hoping that the old BBs will be a great replacement, good response and long lasting shape.Up the TSF! :snooker:

To be honest the elk tip i had on was fine, i had it sanded down quite a bit but i played well with it and it hadn't lost its shape after 2 - 3 month... i just fancied a change for some odd reason and buggered up. Hopefully the buffalo tip will play like the elk
