Peter Ebdon's New Cue - MW Legend?

Hi guys,
So we've felt compelled to join the forum after reading some posts in this thread and we would like to address a few things.
First of all this is not idea theft on our part. From reading Mike's website our ferrules are fitted completely different to his and, although we don't know the materials he uses, we are confident they are different too. In fact the only similarity is the colour, black. If this is enough to be classed as stealing an idea then I would level the same charge at Mike as black ferrules have been used in 9 ball for years. Is that idea theft?
We don't use any type of "core" when fitting our ferrules neither do we use a combination of materials. Ours is a single material ferrule that was researched and tested by ourselves with Peter to get the most out of a cue that is possible. Our efforts were also concentrated as much on contact surface area when striking the cue ball as much as material to dissect how spin is applied to the cue ball etc. I have to say it was very interesting and exciting for both us and Peter.
We're confident, having tested as many suitable materials possible with a variety of specs, that the Zenith ferrule does all things we say and everyone who has played with it agrees. Simple. If Mike is upset with things, we can't do anything about that. I would have thought offering player’s worldwide choice across the different cue makers would be better for snooker in general but that is just my opinion.
On the subject of other cue makers, one has recently fitted Davis with a white ferrule that isn't a million miles away from what we have done albeit a different colour, material etc. So if Mike thinks we have committed copyright theft the he must think the same of the cue maker who fitted Davis’ ferrule. It will be interesting to see the result of any action taken based on "their ferrule is the same colour as mine."
If anyone has any queries on the Zenith ferrule or if you just want more information please feel free to email us info@stamfordcuemakers.co.uk
I hope this brings an end to this ridiculous carry-on and we can all get back to enjoying playing and watching snooker.
Apologies for our first post being so long and in this manner but this did need to be addressed.
Thanks

Great to hear you have cleared this up and I wish you every success with it. Peter certainly played very well with his new cue last night and during the PTC earlier this week where I first noticed his change of cue.
I think one or two people need to be offering an apology as I feel a few will have red faces right now with the accusations made towards you.Last edited by cueman; 16 November 2012, 11:43 AM.

It will be interesting to see the response . . . one question: does it work with a mushroom tip?My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Mike has always proclaimed his Blackspin is 'not just a black ferrule'.
Stamford's Zenith is a black ferrule, marterial unknown.
I dont see a problem personally.
No one asked for it but thats my two -peneth...
Nice to hear from Stamford directly too. Kudos for that.Unclevit C Brand - CueGuru Tip.

The ironic thing is that Mike threatened to sue one member on here not so long ago because of comments that Mike took offence to. I wonder should Stamford should threaten the same action? I get the feeling they won't, as they aren't the type to throw their toys out of the pram the moment they get upset!Last edited by cueman; 16 November 2012, 11:57 AM.

Thanks for the replies guys. We haven't tried the ferrule with a mushroom tip. Peter's original thoughts were to get away from the mushroom tips and it led to where we are now.
Price-wise, to retro fit to existing cues is ÂŁ40 (with tip) as opposed to ÂŁ20 for standard brass re-ferrule and tip. Price difference down to extra time needed to fit etc.
Back to the workshop for us now but keep any questions coming and we'll do our best to reply when we can...

Credit due for a concise and truthful post.
The talk around these various ferrule materials, colours and methods of fitting is unbelieveable. For those who buy into it, try it, for those who don't, leave it alone. It's as simple as that really.
I do think though there will be many people who try various types of these new (well, new to the UK) ferrules, only to find it's no Panacea.

It could well have cost Stamford business if people thought that what some have suggested to be true so I can understand why they aren't best pleased with the comments made here.

i've just had a nice long chat with paul and we're now both very clear about where we stand and the possible misconception of stamford's zenith ferrule.
it has now been made clear that it is just that. a ferrule. made from composite material which displays low deflective characteristics.
this is something the americans and canadians have known for years so there's nothing particularly new there apart from the fact that it is now becoming a popular choice for uk snooker cues.
not least cos of my own very hard work over the last year i'd like to add...
anyway, i called paul cos that's the right thing to do. surprisingly (to some people maybe), we are very much on the same wavelength and our conversation couldn't have been more reasonable, pleasant or understanding of the situation as a whole.
what i'm saying is, we are all friends trying to make a living in this business, and we understand where one another are coming from.
subsequently, paul has kindly updated to the stamford website to clarify exactly what his zenith ferrule is.
ironically, i am happy that stamford have introduced it cos maybe it will make more people sit up and listen to the fact that there IS something positive to be found from using low deflective materials for ferrules.
now, just to clarify my own comments earlier:
the original description on stamford website was almost identical to the usp of blackspin, and the descriptions on my own website and here.
that makes it copyright infringement according to the patent attorney i spoke to.
but, and it's a big but, i only said that in response to ken147's comment about copying.
so it's not a case of jumping to conclusions, i was just stating facts.
unfortunately, as you know, i tend to speak out when i feel the need. sometimes too much
but it's all irrelevant cos, as i said, paul adjusted the wording to reflect more clearly what stamford are doing, and i'm sure that if we were talking face to face then we would have ended the conversation with a big friendly man hug
