Cue lengthening idea

Hi cuefans,
I want to lengthen and move the flat around on my cue. The idea is to split the cue just above the flat and insert these 3 sections of ebony, then the screw-in weight should bond all these piece together to a tightly glued fit.
Does anyone have expeiance with doing this?
Will this effect the play, sound or resonance on the cue?

I was going to smile when I saw this and for that I apologise as it could work.Make sure the sides of the ebony are super smooth before gluing together.Have you thought of using a veneer between each bit of ebony,that would give you some nice circles which could be coloured on your butt.Post some pictures when done.

Yes I know, it looks like a bodge job waiting to happen lol. Yeah, I will make sure all sides are as flat as possible and I am considering using a yellow vineer not so much for the look as it may also push fractional gaps together.
Have you done this kind of job before andrew?
Have you seen my thread- chalk in the grain? This is the same cue.

I did something like that many years ago but think I put a splice over the join.Good for you to try things yourself,I used to do that and it just kept growing.You will be making cues next.

Yip as Andy said you'll be making cues next or in other words things like this can be the start of an obsession!
Getting your first cut nice n flat and neat might prove more difficult than you think!
But it's worth a try and good luck with it!

I have been tinkering around with cues for a few years now, mainly converting club cues into little gems. Iv even done several front splicings and a few 4 point splicings. Here are a few I sold
The thing is only having a plan and a box of tools is not gonna work lol.
For now I will concentrate on playing. Maybe some time in the future when I find a room to work and my little ones are a bit older I'll invest in a lathe get back to it..

Coming back to the original topic for a moment, if I aline and glue all the piece tight you don't think it will change the play on the cue one bit, meaning like a dull sound?

It will certainly feel different but as long as it is solid and tight there should not be any nasty sounds.

A bit of pondering but I cut the cue and glued it, seems really tight and straight What I could not do was move the flat around, to the place I wanted it at, due to the weight bolt beeing out by 0.4mm.
Anyway I'll post a pic when Iv leveled everything..

Very pleased, its leveled, straight and tight, just hope it won't effect the vibe of the stick..

Next thing to do now, over the whole butt, will be fine sanding then oil and polylac layers.

I must say though there is a very slite but noticable difference in the vibe on contact with the white.. So time to do a 4 point slicing over it lol
