Cue buying help!

Hello i need some advice on a cue. I mainly play uk pool and i would say im pretty good the only problem is when i comes down to cues i dont have much of a clue. I bought a geordie pool black widow cue http://www.geordiepool.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=S051
Its a 3/4 ash hand spliced ebony butt, 8.75mm tip, 57 inches 8ozs. I bought it for £150 and now i've just sold it because i feel its no good for me. I've decided that 56 inches and 7ozs might be better suited for me. Because i haven't a clue should i buy a custom made cue or can i buy already designed cues with the size and weight i want? Looking to buy a cue under £200. Cheers

Do you mean 18 and 17 ounces? I'm not sure 57 to 56 inches will make any difference but you can buy Craftsman cues to your specs on the johnparrot website among others comfortably within that budget.

for you budget nothing wrong with a decent geordie cue, ive had a geordie for around 10 years been customised alot so it doesnt look like 1 at all but its the feel of the cue not the price tag you should be looking at

The georide pool cue looked very nice i just couldnt get used to the feel. I felt it was a bit too heavy for me. I've tried looking at cues for under £200 but cant seem to find any under 8oz

Sounds to me you don't even know what specs suit you which could end up costly changing till you find something you get on with, you need to get somewhere and try out cues of different specs to get a feel of what you like!

I've tried that mate, theres no place around me that sells cues. Only sports world or whatever it is which sell crap cues. Geordie pool is the only place but he only sells a few cues in the shop. Does anyone roughly know the weight of a normal cheap bce cue or powerglide?

Would you not consider making a trip on a bus/train, are you living in England?

Yes i live in England. I've used a few of my friends cues which i like the weight a lot more than mine. They said theirs was roughly 7 - 7.5oz

Give craftsman a ring and ask what they've got in stock, or order custom and you'll likely wait a little while.

It would be worth phoning up and asking what English pool spec cues they have. I'm sure they'd be happy to discuss it with you.

And I think you are confusing cue weights, standard weight is 17 to 18oz. An 8oz cue would feel like a toothpick

a plain ash shaft with no splicing is prob between 9-15 oz so you will struggle getting a cue for that weight
