I love a good story to a purchase too, will be nice to see it when you've tidied it up, though looks like you've got a bargain...

Perhaps that feeling about the butt I was getting was ebony with a lighter front splice :P

Had very little to do this afternoon so decided to have a bit of tidy up of the two cues and give them a little refinish...

        How they arrived...

        After a little love...

If you'd worked as hard on that padlock you'd have a case to put it in as well! Lol

The case is back on track now too after some attention to undo my hasty actions earlier.

                Today's been a good day!

Norfolks were often made with burr front splices and sometimes with Allisier ( Service tree, a type of Sorbus, Whitebeam is a close relation) being used for the shaft.Perhaps the shaft is made of something rarer than you thought.Beautiful cues and even better after a little tlc.

The old catalogues and price list suggest that the cue should feature a burr front splice with a choice of shaft between Hornbeam or Alisier. I haven't ruled out chances that the shaft is Alisier yet as I have not been able to get a positive look at another Alisier shafted cue. My one is not similar to the one detailed on the Dominic Dale auction without Ambonya front splice and definitely does not have a Pearwood shaft.
