Thank you for answering my concern guys, I am thinking to get a one piece cue, I am considering either a Osborne or Parris, The black label or the ultimate. But after knowing I am just paying extra for the better looking shaft, then I will stick with the standard collections.

Not much chance of getting an Osborne, he basically just flogs cues abroad these days, very seldom do you see any for sale on his site, I think once last year was about it. Im not even sure if he's made any black plates as of yet.

Parris cue has got the best reputation (not in this forum), it is a bit pricy comparing to others, which brand would you recommend?

Nope, not quite... John states the ultimates 'premium' price gives you extra care on splice work and even splices top and bottom aswell as a top shaft...

          Ultimate shmultimate......

Not to mention that the shaft will be of the best quality playing wise too. It amazes me how successful he is at making the pros cues that they adapt with and play so well with like Mark King for instance who has only had this cue a fairly short time. Say what you like about Parris but when it comes to Ultimate range they are in a class of their own, why else would so many top pros use his cues if they were no good!

                Then he saw the light!
I'm no fanboy, I used a Parris right up until late last year, now use a phoenix which I'm playing great with although I do have an Ultimate on order I'm not sure I will use that when I get it because it needs to be something special to replace this cue I'm now using.

I got no problem with parris cues apart from he shouldn't be sending out shoddy craftmanship labelled as 'ultimate' when they are clearly not upto it...

You can say what you like but the fact is the cues he chucks out as ultimates at times are poor....

The premium price should be a given for top craftmanship, which in many cases they are not. FACT.

Anyways, if ppl are stupid enough too pay the premium for one then crack on, I couldn't care less, more money than sense some ppl eh.....

I don't know where this supposed idea is that many Ultimates go out that are poor. I've seen a couple of pics from everyone's favourite russian ebayer and we have seen some minor splices out by 2-3mm at most. They are more of the exception rather than the norm and of course we only hear about negative things like this when in fact there are probably 2 out of 100 unhappy customers the rest are perfectly happy. That is the problem today that only disappointed people seem to broadcast their findings as if its the norm that all cues sold by parris are poor. Not only that but there are also a lot of jealous people out there that love to put JP down, that is why its always the same old members commenting everytime about this. That is the gripe I have and why I say its unfair to label someone just because you don't hear all the happy customers so I'll do my best to redress that balance, but under no circumstances is this a vested interest.

FACT is NO ultimate should be sent out if it's not 'ultimate' quality, be it 10 out of 100 or whatever..

The FACT is JP lists them as his ultimate range for pure aesthetics (sp) and every one should be of top quality. otherwise what's the point in doing an 'ultimate' range?....

May aswell just do a std range then eh...

what don't you get about that, pretty simple really....

Now stop sticking up for him at every opportunity and accept the fact that his ultimate range is just a con to get more money from dopy ppl willing to fall for it....

Depends how you view 700 pounds. To some people, it's about the same as a dinner at a fancy restaurant, or changing a set of wheels. Not really a lot of money thus they feel spending 700 on an ultimate isn't that much considering resale value or even profit. To others, earning 700 pounds is two weeks wages and feel it is too much to spend on a piece of wood. Really it all boils down to how you value 700 pounds. To say people are idiots for buying one or have more money than sense is a bit unjustified in my opinion.

If some people put as much effort into their game as they do looking at the accuracy of splicing being out a few mm they'd be able to compete with the top 16!!
