I dont know what being a member or not having anything to do with negative or positive comments . I dont recall Robin Cook ever posting on here yet all comments regarding his work have been extremely positive , thats because his work is consistently great , i bet he like other great cue makers have made the odd one that has,nt been up to their usual standards , the difference is they never left the workshop .
I,m not slating John Parris i have no reason to but there are examples to see of cues that should not have left the workshop .
How many cues does John actually make himself nowadays? Genuine question. This is the sole reason I don't buy JP any more. If I want a JP cue, I want it made by JP especially if I'm being charged 'JP' prices..
It does not matter if John makes the cues or not, he has been around for many years, most of them successful, he is handy for the professionals as he is situated in London, able to work on cues at short notice, which the professionals like, he also knows what he is doing, if you are some kind of player you will not be that animated to own an ultimate cue with fancy butt splicing's, just have a look at this forum how many Parris or White or other cues you see advertised as "amazing" "fantastic" all with massive price tag's on them, have you ever wondered that if they are that amazing why are they being sold?? As for pricing I find Parris pretty reasonable, he has by far the best web site, is helpful and knowledgeable and as I have said if you can play the game an Ambassador is a quarter of what some "amazing" cues with some odd specs are being sold for on this forum. The important thing is that you must try your cue before you buy, if you are in London visit Parris, Osborne etc. and try as many as you can, if you are lucky enough to find one that suits you and you really like the feel and balance of it BUY IT and spend the rest of your money on proper professional tuition because I am convinced that those with the fanciest cues are in reality the worst players.Look at Dominic Dale he is what you might call a cue nut, but have you noticed that Dominic's standard of play and skill remains unchanged from cue to cue, just understand that a fancy cue does not make you a better player, far more important to look after your cue tip and your cue action. You should also understand the power of advertising, most of you would have seen the "commercial" Peter Ebdon did for Stamford, best cue, best ash amazing Zenith black ferrule gives me more control better backspin, so much so that Peter is right back using his old 5 pound Dufferin cue with brass ferrule and mushroom tip, I wonder how many went to Stamford and paid out 70 quid to have a black Zenith ferrule fitted to their cue??
I was with Graeme last night and he was amazed when I told him about this discussion about his cue. Here is to me the amusing thing,he does not know if his splices are even he has never looked or cares,he does not know how many chevrons it has as he holds the nameplate into his side and sights up the straight grain. He has no idea what weight it is or what wood is on the splices. The only thing he insists on is the length anything else he goes by feel.If it feels right that is all that he wants,I saw this years ago when he picked the worst cue I had in stock.
If you read this Neil,I tried mate but no luck.

Or just a good player who buys a cue to er, you know, play with! Trouble with many players is they don't know a good cue from a bad one. As they can't play that well they go looking for faults with the cue rather than try and improve their own game. then you get all this fuss over a few mm out with splices or whatever other nonsense they can find to moan about. Also Ebay and this site haven't helped either because now people want to sell everything on that they can't get on with whereas before the internet people would just buy a cue and stick with it. Now we have a load of keyboard warriors, all having to air their opinions as if they are gospel and muddying names of people who they don't like.
They go to extreme lengths to take artistic photos of cues from individual cue makers who are able to take far more time and effort making a cue as perfectly as possible but could play like **** and then suddenly everyone starts to compare that cue to other makes. Sorry but the splicing of a cue is just not that important to good players, that is what really annoys me when people who cannot play start having an opinion on cues.
He also told me he was practising when John Higgins brought a cue in to try for the first time.John played a couple of frames and flung in a 147 and then said to Graeme that it was no use and he could not play with it.
