  • Big old Butt needs to lose some weight

    cue4.jpg

The butt in question, 21 inches of ebony.

Besides splicing lighter wood into a butt is there any other methods that cuemakers can employ to take weight out of a cue? Havn't used this cue in a while due to its weight (19oz) and have been tinkering with the idea of getting some weight taken out of it (ideally 1.5 to 2-oz) while at the same time extending it by 1 1/4 inches to bring it upto 58".

So far it seems mission impossible as the butts pure ebony with no lead inside, and apparently even splicing lighter wood onto it woudl result in a minimal change. Any other drastic methods that can be employed to lighten the load?

Have a look on MW's facebook page, he's got a drill bit that does just this as well as other things

Seen that a while back and forgot about it till just now, emailed Mike to see what his take is on it. The butt overall is pretty huge, 27" overall to the splice tips. 2 oz weight loss while extending it is a big ask though.

You would need to dig out a lot of precious ebony to loose up to 1.5oz, then the balance and feel could go all weird. Hassle. Think about it.. If I was you I'd be looking around for something else. I'm sure this would be an easy cue to sell, lots of interest for heavier cues.

Its not really a playing cue anymore with the weight in it, playing with a legend sinbin cue. Be hard to sell on though as its 56 3/4 inches, most people want 57" or 58". The cue is about 75% a parris cue as it was a short shaft that got spliced, ferruled, jointed and a new butt made up for it with sd joint by parris cues. Not sure how much it would even go for.

I see, well the standard length is 57" so I wouldn't worry about 1/4, I'm 6'4 and use 56.5". I understand if your attached to it but sometimes we tinker around with things for to long, spend time and money when really, we should let it go.. Or leave it in the corner
