  • What type of tool\gadget is this?

    From the H&O catalogue

On the right hand side the tool on top of the shaft, is that to taper it in for a tip or something to cut the shaft to fit a ferrule? Same things on one of the pics on the parris site but it says something about it being for tipping?

Ferrule cutter as in it cuts tenon for the ferrule. Not sizing the ferrule itself, ?

Was thinking that myself, not really sure how the shaft is cut before the ferrule is put on.

Yeh, thats a ferrule cutter, very hard to use to get decent results ,frankly easier to do it by hand.

Whatever you do though don't follow the suggestion of a 'trusted' forum member (who has previously ripped you off to the tune of 50 quid) and lend yours to some a**hole who will then f*** the spring up on it and return it without so much as an apology. Trust no one.

You can never beat the results achieved by fitting them on a lathe!
It's the most accurate way possible.
Shows you they didn't even have a lathe back then.
As Mick Reece fitted the joints and they bought in ebony butts already turned.

there easy enough to use just be wary about taking too much off better to be slightly big and finish with a file

I knew they outsourced the jointing of cues, never knew they didn't really make their own butts. So they just put a flat and a badge on it and gave it an oiling?
