  • My JP Ultimate (7mm tip)

Hey, Got myself this cue a while back ago for pool. But if im honest it much for me as im still learning the game. I was wondering would anyone on here know roughly how much its worth. I know its not going to be for everyones liking as its such a small tip. Be more suited for a 8 ball pool player.

    Specs

    56.5" long
    7mm Tip
    30mm Butt
    17.5 oz
    Maple

cue comes with a full parris mini butt and one peice case.

Thanks fokes just wanting to see much it worth to see if its worth while just keeping or selling as again i cant get used to it, it to powerful for my ability.

Almost unsaleable with a 7mm tip but if it can be increased to 9ish although it will be shorter it might have a market in asia.

Its more for a serious 8ball pool player not snooker. different market really. Was customed by a guy who plays in the 8ball tour. Alot of serious pool players have tiny tips seen a few french players wif 5-5.5mm tips. which is crazy. Cheers for the reply didnt think about chopping it abit for a bigger tip size. altho is short enuff at the moment wouldnt like to see it shorter lol. Cheers

It's not crazy money to add some splices on the butt to lengthen a cue and that would give the length to reduce to increase the tip size to 9ish mils which would seriously increase it's market. Probably worth it as Ultimates are so costly and should increase the return and quicken the sale. Could increase the length and tip size to standard at the same time.

can I ask when the cue was made?
also, I agree with the others that it could be extended and tip resized and probably not for too much
be interesting what you plan to do.
          cheers

Sent email of to parris to check if the spec were orginal which they are. It was made in 2001. I was made for a 8ball pro in england and now i have it here in Northern Ireland. I seen french and scottish guys using 5-6mm tips at international level pool so i took an interest in this cue and bought it as i only play pool well try. To be honest i dont really know what to do with it it just a pitty my cue action isnt upto standard to play with this cue other than that its a joy to use and hold. No rush on selling it would conisder getting length added to it to increase the tip size, but no nothing about how going about it. would it still be one piece or wood it have to be jointed to add length. would like it to remain one piece. If someone out there is serious about pool then this is the cue, as that what it was made for. Thanks for your input guys youve gave me food for thought

If it was mine, like sberry, I'd go to Parris take it to a 9mm and even if it went down to 55" so be it then market it with the East in mind. Oh, plus a JP ticket and a Pic-with-John-with-cue..
                Would it sell?

7mm is too small even for 8 ball - too much unwanted side. will cost about £150 to lengthen it and make it 9/9.5mm. but would add £250 to the value of the cue.

I just noticed in one of the pics the chalk in the case. I advise not to use that piece again (unless you file it till the hole has gone) with that hole going straight through the chalk will only tear-up the wood under the ferrule even more, couple that with sanding around the ferrule again your looking at a 6mm by the summer.. Chalk the cue next time from the center to the side or center to the corner side, + or x like!

Does look a lovely cue but the 7mm is way too small for most people (I play with a 8.2mm for English pool).
Are you sure it is 7mm? Get a micrometer on it and check, that could be the difference between a sale and no-sale.
And not sure about the 2001-made, JP was doing 600-800 range in about 2004-5 IIRC

JP ultimate in ebony an maple, very nice, as it is.. If you extend it not only will it be pricy with new ferrule, sd joint, refinish and so on but it will change the play and balance of the cue from its original build.

Im just going on stats from the orginal build for the tip size though if you ask me it looks about 6mm. will have to get it properly checked out. As for the year it was made im just going from what i was told from a guy in my local club. I never asked when it was made i was to excited to get the thing home. You could be right thought iv no clue. Im going to phone jp today and see what the damage would be to carry out the work. As the cue at the moment is stunning just a pitty my cue action isnt lol. Iv seen a free guys in the scottish international and french international teams use 5.5mm and 6mm in 8 ball pool. according to these guys the smaller n lighter the cue the better. Each to there own really,

Thanks for all the replys guys. Iv learnt alot over the past two days

yeah mate i do chalk like that, when i decide to take this cue out it comes out in my good case with the x shape chalk although it did come with the chalk in the picture just never took it out of the case. Cheers for all the input mate iv learnt alot over the last day or two. going to phone jp today and see what the damage would be. As its too sweet of a cue to let sit or sell for silly money. Cheers

decided to send it of to jp. It will be getting posted away this week. Going for a tulip wood and a purple splice. length will be 58" and iv decided on a 9mm tip not 8.5 incase i dont like the play of the cue when its returned. the bigger tip will help resale. Ill keep use posted and get pictures up when its returned. JP said it will be returned in 4-6weeks. not bad considering the near two year waitin list of a jpu
