On another point 9.8mm ferrule might be rare but 10mm are 10 a penny....
I'm living in Aberystwyth. Far Far away from any where. 3 hours train to Birmingham 4.5 hours to Manchester. Also Im playing a 55'' cue which I believe most of this length are pool cues with a 8mm ferrule. But I think this is a good idear. May visit craftsman shop during my holiday.

doesn't matter what it looks like or what the micrometer says, if you cannot take a club cue out the bucket and knock in fifty breaks and kill a frame in one visit, forget about spending more than £40 on a cue.

when you can play you will know what you want, when you can play you can play with quite a broad range of cues and then you can get fussy

          55"? That's very short.
My brother went to uni at Aberystwyth I know it's a fair drive with no motorways but it might give you a feel.

I have 4 cues all slightly different specs I can pay with all of them except the 57.5" cue, length is the only thing that has actually stopped me using a cue. Can tell you I prefer the butt size on 1, the weight of another and the tip size of the third, but unfortunately they are 3 different Cues :P

In my mind, the bigger tip can help you easier to pot the ball in. the smaller tip size can have more feel to control the cue ball placing.

btw, it depend the woods performance and you skills.

lol lol so, so untrue! Granted 750 they are light and you do need a straightish action to operate these cues but I'm doing it with my racka all the time:

I totally agree Jim.....too much is put on fractions of millimetres in my opinion...you can either knock the balls in or you cant! I actually play with an 11mm tip and can screw back the length of the table when needed...all about the cue action, not the tip size.

In the first twenty years of making cues not one person ever asked for a 9.2 or a 9.8mm ferrule or I might add a balance point. Now the first thing I had to get was a micrometer.Had a customer who wanted a 9.2mm ferrule who then complained top of ferrule was only 9.1mm.God knows how guys like Mike and Trevor cope with demands these days.

I like a 9.25 but if I'll take that 9.1 of your hands for free. You know to save cluttering up the place with unwanted cues :P

Spot on but snooker is the new golf these days, it's all about having the latest designer gear which is good news for the makers if they can cope with the finicky requests

don't moan jim, it's only a matter of time before people start asking for 9.145mm ferrules and specific taper measurments and weights to the nearest gram..

It's blocked by thousands of mountains. You can order one from a top cue maker and make these one cue.
