ah, shame you couldn't have stuck with the tip for a bit longer. i've been told by a few people that the tips appear to soften up a bit (oddly) and play/feel excellent.
I just wanted to really get the feel for what effect the new ferrule/core actually had on the shot. I couldn't really give it a fair test without having the same tip I usually play with. I've had that many people asking me about it I wanted to be sure of any change before I put my name to an opinion.

having said that, it needs to feel right straight away so i totally appreciate you wanted to change.
It didn't feel wrong, but it is a lot firmer than an elk so I needed to change.

your point about firmness is duly noted but they are intended to be a hybrid pressed/laminated tip so they should be harder than elks etc.. however, the slight elasticity that i appear to have got seems to make them soften up a tad and play better after a short bedding in time. ideally i'd like to avoid that but that's where i am at the moment.
I think that is the choice we have to make until someone solves it and finds the middle ground. I don't mind changing a tip every 2/3 months but before when I played with the Mooris the thought of having to change the tip was irritating.

anyway, i'm still very much in the experimental stage with these and am listening to all comments from the limited number of users that have tried them. hopefully, i'll resolve all issues before i release them for general sale.
When the design is finalised, I'll give them a bash for sure.

A week on with the new cue and I can definitely tell you that blackspin has a massive effect on the reaction from the white. It is very different.

Now, I am still yet undecided as to whether or not it is for me and I will attempt to explain.

What the blackspin ferrule does is dramatically reduce the amount of 'throw/deflection/squirt' or whatever term your region uses for it. Whatever else you think, take it from me. It does.
The problem I get from this is that, throw was never a problem for me as I have reached what I consider a pretty decent standard.

On anything straight, the shots come off the middle of the bat, no problem. Even if you don't cue it 100% as silly as it sounds, the ferrule doesn't allow too much of the white to go far enough from the line to miss.

I think the core of the ferrule is reducing the actual amount of spin you can possibly achieve on the white, which is a problem for me as I have a very soft and flowy action which gives me the need to feel every nuance of every shot to play to the peak of my ability.

The blackspin ferrule gives you a uniform hit for every type of shot. The contact is very similar for all types of shots.

The cue is fantastic. I love how it feels when I am cueing, aiming and still just looking at it... Just not won over yet by how it feels when I hit the cueball.

High break so far with it is 122, next highest 79...

I thought this throw/give came from the body of the cue itself and has nothing to do with the ferrule. True?

nope, for example thinner walled/lighter ferrules tend to throw less...

So your saying the density of the shaft has nothing to do with the throw its about the ferrule wall?

The ferrule has a core which runs through the cue from the tip end. This in turn affects the density.

I have played with many cues, I have 9 in my house which I have had shots with just to see... Trust me, this is different altogether in terms of the effect it has with throw.

Obviously the shaft will play it's part. Only a salesman would claim different.

But unless this shaft is particularly different to every other shaft I have ever played with.... ever, then this ferrule/core thingybob must be the contributing factor.

For one, the shaft is not that stiff which usually creates more spin in my experience.

I wasn't saying it was solely the ferrule, it is a combination of various things, i was saying no to the part where you said is all down to the shaft, it is partly down to the shaft but also other things including the ferrule.

We don't know how far into the shaft the core goes, I doubt its anything more than 3-5 inches tops though.

would be surprised if it goes that far, potter cut the end of your cue off and find out for us will you

I had always thought 3-5cm, no more

I imagine it being quite a dull hit and sound
