I saw on your photobucket a cue were one or two splices have opened, what happened there? I recognize the badge being, a TG?

That was a Tony Glover cue where myself and Tony were victims of the stress the recent cold spell had on the cue.
Needless to say I wasn't happy so returned the cue for a full refund. It also turned up with a small dent in the shaft.

Shame.

Same happen to me with G four years ago, no sooner had I got back and lay it on the living room floor after being on the motorway for an hour an half it was open and, the next morning it had really blossomed.
It to was a shame because it was stunning.

I honestly cannot believe what I have just taken delivery of.

I have spent the last half an hour combing for the slightest fault in it's construction or any blemish in it's finish.

Michael, I have no idea how you got the balance point so far forward in a one piece cue. I had resigned myself to believing this unattainable and the price to pay for losing the joint in my cues.

Now that was tricky...

It's hard enough matching weight/balance requests at the best of times but 19oz is very heavy and balance at 18" is very forward, so it was challenging to say the least.

But rest assured, some expletives were aimed in your direction from the workshop during this process

Very often in life, you have high expectations only to be let down by your own imagination. I am genuinely shocked at how pretty the thing is.

The Cue Contest has a serious marker down from one of the heavyweights out there! Woah.

I'm shocked you expected anything less...

It's not a veneer as such, it's a full splice, over spliced with a second wood.

But seriously, if someone likes a cue balanced well forward it's fine. The point is simply one of personal preference.

Around 17" is where I usually aim as I think this is just about 'right'

Played with it for half an hour last night and an hour this morning.

Last night, ten or twenty shots in, I took off the tip that came with the cue (sorry Mike).
I have never liked super firm tips since I switched from layered tips a few years back. Not that the new tip was layered, but it was very firm. Firmer than a pro granite which I also find too firm.

So, removed the tip. The BS ferrule makes tipping cues easier I feel. You have one consistent surface of the same density which means you can scrape the old tip remnants off easier.
The glue keys with the 'mw' logo that's visible on the ferrule so the tip stuck very well.
Shaping was easy as well, not even a minor scratch on the wall.

So, does BS make a difference...? Of course it does.

The elk hadn't bit properly during the hour, but I had seen enough to know that Mike could be onto something here. I have often silently thought when something claims to reduce the throw of the white that it was utter bollocks.

But after the umpteenth high black I stunned in off the back and side cushions it occurred to me that I had unconsciously began to aim shallower, allowing for less throw.

It's hard to say whether you get more spin because my tip hasn't played in yet. By the weekend I will know.

What I know now is from baulk and starting with a long red to hold for the pink, I cleared the line out to the yellow and in total twice... all with a new tip.

One missed shot in 100, not too bad for a new cue with a new tip.

I am definitely going to give the cue a month at least to measure the benefit, looking forward to it.

ah, shame you couldn't have stuck with the tip for a bit longer. i've been told by a few people that the tips appear to soften up a bit (oddly) and play/feel excellent.

having said that, it needs to feel right straight away so i totally appreciate you wanted to change.

your point about firmness is duly noted but they are intended to be a hybrid pressed/laminated tip so they should be harder than elks etc.. however, the slight elasticity that i appear to have got seems to make them soften up a tad and play better after a short bedding in time. ideally i'd like to avoid that but that's where i am at the moment.

anyway, i'm still very much in the experimental stage with these and am listening to all comments from the limited number of users that have tried them. hopefully, i'll resolve all issues before i release them for general sale.
