  • Help please - identify this cue??

    Hi all

Looking for some help / guidance on identifying this cue & chalk, have taken a fair few pics to help you all.
From the little bit of research I have done, im thinking it could be a Peradon Cue? They seemed prominent at the time of weight stamping cues etc. The chalk is fairly self explanitory but am wondering on its history / rarity / value etc.
The case too if anyone can enlighten me, there is currently 2 for sale together on ebay both made by Burroughes & Watts.

actually it's a pretty rare cue because the snooker plus game never really took off, the NOTW was one of the sponsors. the idea was to add two extra balls to make the breaks bigger, a purple and an orange if i remember, the idea was conceived in about 1960 but had died by about 1965 so the cue dates from about then. and yes it is a peradon cue.

thought joe invented snooker plus in 51-ish so the cue could date from the 50s

peradon did loads of badges and fittings like that and had a habit of secondary splicing on their machine spliced cues

is the cue straight and if so what specs, is it for sale or swap?

I thought snooker plus was unveiled to the general public 56 odd? Or am I getting confused
Regardless still a fairly narrow window as adr says (should have twigged that before really)

              Wikipedia:

Snooker plus (sometimes spelled snooker-plus) is a cue sport based on snooker. The variant was created by Joe Davis, who added an orange ball (8 points) and a purple ball (10 points) to the set. The idea was that this would increase the maximum break from 147 to 210, and so help to attract a greater audience. At the end of the frame, the six standard snooker colours are potted in their usual order, followed by orange and purple. If the frame ends in a tie, then the purple is respotted on the black spot.[1] The new format was introduced to the public on 26 October 1959 at the Burroughes Hall, London during the News of the World Championship.[1][2] The variation failed to catch on, and the extra colour balls necessary to play the game are not available from any major supplier.[

you said "about 1960", to me October 1959 is pretty close to "about 1960"

Firstly, thanks for the comments and info. It makes interesting reading.

I would describe the cue as "average" condition. I think it could do with a refurb, but I'm unsure whether doing this would adversely affect it's value. It has a few small dents from about half way down the cue down towards the butt. Can anyone advise me about this? I don't want to take it to a cue specialist if (even though they could make it playable), it would affect the value.

It won't be for sale, as it was passed down to me by a guy who's now in his 90's, and I'd like to keep hold of it and pass it down when I can't see anymore! Collecting things like this could end up being an obsession for me!

Does anyone know anything about the era of the chalk? Can't see the e-bay link at the mo, as I'm at work, but I'll check when I get home.

Does anyone know anything about the case? Haven't seen one of these before. It's pretty beat up, but I was wondering about it's age etc. Is there a clever way of telling? A "cue case watermark", as such!

Thanks for the input so far!

leave the cue as it is - most collectors prefer it untouched.
