  • I need a cue!

    Hello everybody.

What it is, I've had a five year break from snooker. I've always played snooker with a pool cue all those years. Now that I'm seriously getting back into the sport, my cue is definitely holding me back. It's a £50 cue with an 8mm tip, nowhere near big enough to get sufficient action on my cueball I feel.

It's about time I invested in a proper cue I can progress with. I have about £150-£200 to spend, I don't mind the weight but I'm certain I need atleast a 9.5mm tip.

Are there any recommendations out there? It would be greatly appreciated. I haven't got a clue when it comes to snooker cues with reference to brand etc. Materials I sort of know.

    Thank you in advance!

    Phil.

      Tip size: 9.5mm,
Weight: I don't mind, heavy side preferably,

            Hi Phil

            Welcome to TSF.

Depending on your location you should check out http://www.greenbaize.co.uk
You can go and try out a wide selection of cues before you buy.

Although I havnt been myself you will find nothing but good reviews on these forums about that shop. I myself need a cue and will be heading there in the near future.

If you want a custom made cue then search on the forums for any of the following well respected cue makers, Mike Wooldridge, Trevor White, Jason Owen or John Parris. Although you would be pushing your budget up to 300+

Anyway best of luck and hope you find something good.

Check out recent threads on here for people in similar situations of new cue required.

One thing you need to decide is timescale, if you go down custom order route it does take time to make.

If you bought from adr, craftsman, greenbaize or andrew gibbs. The cue is available for fast delivery.

              Good luck

Is it used or new mate? I would prefer new.

Thank you for the warm welcome I'll definitely check out that shop, depending on where it i I might visit it also! I wouldn't mind paying 300+ odd aslong as it's right for me I've heard of John Parris.

Hello Jaffa. I don't mind waiting for a cue to be honest. I'm also just trying to familiarize myself with what makes of cue are reputable/well respected and what aren't.

Thank you for all the replies guys

don't focus on new or used - a cue is a cue, focus on the cue, it is much better to have a used cue that is perfect for you than a new one that is cheap and nasty. look closely at the cues you are offered and pick the one that you like based on what you can afford. I would have something I expect but generally I am selling more expensive cues so I would imagine you will get a better deal from some you have been offered on here.

Yeah you're right mate. I should have known better making such a premature comment, as I play darts and I know new/used darts all work the same. You just need to find what's right for yourself.

What cues do you have in what price range exactly? I can stretch further, depending on what I see.
