  • Darkening Shaft

    Hi

To those cue experts out there, I would like to know if oiling the cue will darken the shaft. I like my shaft a nice light color but over the last few months seems to have darkened somewhat so was thinking if oiling the cue darkens the shaft. I know darkening is a natural process for all cues/ woods although it seems to have happened very quickly is the issue. And is there any way of restoring the shaft to a lighter colour or would that involve sanding down the surface??

    Thanks

Anything put on wood, with the exception of bleach or acid will darken it over time, I reckon...

Do you need to oil it?

yes, but not often. i have read back and found that danish oil darkens it the least. just need to find some... although i fear it may be a bit too late as the shaft has darkened quite a bit, though not yet at the golden brown color..

You could apply sanding sealer, then sand down with 1000/2000 and wax. Gives a nice finish and prevents moisture and dirt getting in the wood.

I believe Danish Oil does not darken the wood nearly as much as the usual oils.
