No idea but I also saw that on Eurosport this morning where they said he had a new cue after his old one had been broken.
The chap he was playing (Velichkov) had a cue where the ebony butt had no tulip shape where it joined the shaft which I've not seen before. He had a Dunns cues sticker on his waistcoat but I could'nt see one like it on their website.

Didn't know his old one had broken, not that surprised considering its age and the amount of play its had since Shaun owned it from a young age.
His new cue seemed to be a little thicker and lighter in colour but still fairly dark for an ash shaft. I noticed the different grain pattern straight away but its hard to guess who made it as we never got a close up of the butt. It looked to be an ebony butt with 4 lower splicings of Thuya or similar burr wood. Didn't notice a badge on it so its possible its been altered already. Maybe a back up cue he's owned for some time that he's now having to use.
As for the chap he was playing it was a terrible rack cue the sort you'd get in a rileys club. He didn't do it any justice either as he missed some awful balls. However he's considered the best player in Bulgaria so he must be able to play a bit. The logo of Dunns is being worn by a few players so there is nothing in that as it being the brand who made his cue.

This could be very bad news indeed for Murphy as he's had that cue since he was a boy and his game is honed to it. With luck it was dead straight which would make getting used to one that is very similar and also straight wouldn't be so hard as it would if it was bent and his cue action had certain unconscious irregularities that works only with that cue.
Best of luck to him.
BTW a cue glove is perfect for use in hot conditions to stop the cue sticking to your sweaty bridge hand, especially if you use a maple cue.
