  • My New TW vs my old Maximus Ultimate

I received the new TW about a month ado.... 19th May.

I use it almost every day for a month but I seem to can't get use of the cue !!
Compare to my old cue, Maximus Ultimate... both cue spec are similar except the ferrule size & tip.

Maximus - 9.5mm with Talisman PRO
TW - 10mm with Talisman WB

Both cues are 57" & 17.5oz, the Maximus cue just feel comfortable & but every time when I sue the TW I really feel that the cue is too heavy and just feel not right.
How come I have the feeling that the cue is heavy ?? But both cues are 17.5oz.

I can't play well with TW, I am just like a beginner when using TW !
But I am Ok (as normal) when switch back the my old Maximus !

    Why ????

What are the balance points of the cues? This can make a big difference to the feel of the cues.
When I got my new snooker cue it did feel very different and awkward, but I noticed something...
with my old cue, I had the flat of the butt facing down, I obviously did this with the new cue and it did not feel right. So instead I turned the flat to facing up, and, BHAM, the cue felt perfect and balanced and have not looked back ever since
I know this is obvious but have you tried rotating the new cue to see if it feels better in another alignment?
    best of luck
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Each cue plays differently in my opinion .

Are the balance points the same ? Are they both 1 piece or 3/4 ?

I've used many cues over the years to virtually the same specs and they have all played differently .

Had to TW's [ Another on the way ! ] and both played totally differently . So much so , that I sold once straightaway . Nothing wrong with the cue , just wasn't for me .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

        Maximus is 16" & the TW is 17" ~~~~ both 1pc ash.

        I changed cues many times...
Ist cue was Omin Classic, then Mastercraft, Omin Climax, Dunns, Maximus & latest is this TW.

The TW cue just feel heavy & my arm feel tired after a frame or 2.... I never have this type of weird feeling before !

There is ur answer........ balance pt at 16" will definitely feel lighter as compared to the POB of 17" as u may feel the new cue is slightly top heavy. In my opinion, a cue having a POB of 17" would be a well balanced cue. U shd check the weight for both cues again with a digital measuring device, I'd not be surprised that ur new cue may turn out to be a tad heavier!!

maybe TW gave you a heavy shaft

Every single cue, even at identical specs plays a little different to each other, the shaft may be a little thicker too at the bridge point which makes a big difference to cue feel too, plus then there is shaft stiffness to think about too, it's a minefield trying to find the "one"

                Thanks guys....

So, should I stop using the Maximus & stick to the TW till I get use to it ?
                Or sell the TW !

I also had a TW I could not get used to and sold it. I have since ordered another admittedly with just slightly different specs and found it great. I would probably sell the cue if it does not feel comfortable for you.

I've found that hefting a cue in your hand is little indication of how heavy or light it will feel when you are down on the shot.

The physical dimensions can be a distraction when purchasing a cue. Best way is to try out a variety of shots with the cue. If it feels right, well, then congrats, that's all you need to know.

I changed the Talisman WB H to a pressed ELK Master.
The cue feeling is totally different from earlier, much much better.

Didn't realise that by changing tip could make a big different.

Indeed, there is a big difference between normal pressed tips and laminated ones. Even the laminated ones differ from one another depending on the brand and hardness.

There are many options in the market for tips right now. Good to experiment around to find out which suits you best.

It's easier to change tips than cues...

If you don't get on with it now there is a good chance you will never be 100% happy with it.
Maybe better selling it on and either sticking with the other cue or ordering a new one again.
