No problem, happy to help! I am sure Gordon (the cue collector) will be able to give you more details. Let me know if you ever decide to sell the cue!

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
      I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Sorry for late reply but you were correct, I talked to the company (expert!) twice he did not disclose that information but talked as if an authority on my cue, however he did not know that there was a Newcstle Ye Olde Ash cue depite there are pics. on the net. I just thought 'more heat than light here' Thanks for squaring the circle.

well your expert knows nothing! i would need closer pictures but if it's right i know several people who would give you a grand or more for it - personally instinct tells me it is not right, the ash is dark but not the same reddish tinge i have seen before, i suspect it is a later second edition with a first edition badge, or a transition cue as it is known, still worth a decent amount of cash though around what you were offered here, that said photos are very very hard to judge. if you are serious about it pack it up well and send it to andy hunter.

            Who was this company 'expert'?

Did you send the pics to Gordon (the Cue Collector)?

I am sure he can tell you more than this company 'expert'.

I think he is refering to the B&W (Sutton's) as mentioned previously and I think he was being sacarstic in his description of "expert"
Interesting thread though, look forward to further developments.
              Up the TSF! :snooker:

It has definately never been tampered with, the badge thing never happend, it has been in the family from the day it was bought and no one has taken an interest in it until now. The only new fact that has come to light is that he was 19 when he bought it that would mean 1924 or 25.

Do you know where he bought it? Or for how much? I doubt it but you never know . . .

95% certain it was in Newcastle Upon Tyne, it would be direct from Boroughs and Watts. I have been told that he was 19 when he bought it and he was born in 1905. No idea on how much he paid, a receipt may turn up but I very much doubt it.
Yes I was being ironic when I called the Sutton's B&W guy an 'expert' I think he said that his name was Malcome Johns

The earliest advert I have seen for this cue was May 1930 (below), so if you know of them being available earlier than this I would be grateful for a reference. As you can see, at this date they were selling them for £3 10s., which was about double the price of any other cue in their range, although I suspect that won't be much good as an insurance estimate. A slightly later advert mentions that the wood was "fifty years old."

Have you seen the pics that I sent to Mythman69, the wood is very dark and the date suggests it is a first edition. I couldn't post them myelf due to rule about being a new member.
