  • Green Plate Will Hunt cues on Dave Coutts site

Hi guys, has anyone seen and tried one of these?

I emailed Dave, he told me "these cues are made for will to his demanding specifications, he then finishes them off in workshop"

Can anyone possibly give a feedback on these cues? Is it worth the price? Thanks guys.

From what I heard, cues are made in Thailand, and Will do some finishing and of course the badge. As for me, I won't pay for a uk cue price but end up it is Thailand made cue. I will rather find a hunt & Osborne or hunt o'byrne, confirm the quality is there and 100% made by the name in the badge.

Pity he still isn't fully upfront about where they are made, would have more respect for him if he was...

Correct me if I am wrong here but were the origional hunt & Osbourn cues not supplied by aeon ? If so then why when this seems common knowledge is it so different with the will hunt cues today ?
It seems to me that the only difference
To what will has done to many other cuemakers is to admit the cues are imported ?
I see it as a little honesty has put him in the firing line !

Also if he was the ******* that people seem to think for badging Thai cues just remember that he could just as easily put black plate badges in them and put them up for well over double the price they are !

            Hi Neil,

Don't get me started about dealing with Dave Coutts regarding Will Hunt's "new" green plates.

As for the cue itself, I didn't like it at all. I couldn't get a feeling for the cue no matter how hard I tried. Later on as the truth came out about the cues I liked it even less. I was lucky to sell it(at a loss).
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I was under the impression that both red plate and green plate cues were sourced elsewhere ?

The point I am trying to make dean can't really be put forward without upsetting people here so I won't be drawn in to any discussions about ethics ect as the only business that concerns me is my own !
But I've seen week in week out pictures of cues claiming to be handmade and badged as handmade too that are 100% not !
I just see it as a which hunt myself as what has happened with will is so common but not everyone is silly enough to admit it, and this just proves in my eyes how frustrating the whole cue business is, at some point in the last thread a little honesty came out and it was confirmed that these cues were made elsewhere but honesty obviously in this case has been the worst possible result

Now please let me be clear that I don't know will or even agree with a handmade badge going in a cue that has not been made by the name on the badge but thats just the way things go sometimes !

                      Hi Crispian
you have said nothing that I do not agree with

I just thought it was H&OByrne cues that some were Aeon, not H&Osborne? ready to be corrected
                      ciao

I thought it was the H&Osborne blue plate machine spliced ones that were made by aeon

cheers for that, yep it does ring a bell. I also recall that Aeon did all of H&OB joints as they did not have a lathe of their own.

Not to sure which was which sorry ? Just seems that it was exeptable at one time but not so nowadays, maybe prices have affected this ?

Personally i don't care where the cues come from, (it would be nice to know tho, but not essential, i have a great cue that i since found out did not come from where i thought, doesn't bother me really), at the end of the day a cue is for playing with, if you like the design, buy it ! You shouldn't really be buying cues with the intent of making money on them in the future
