My take on this is that take the newer cuemakers for example Jason and Crispian on here. Both are starting to make a good name for themselves based on the quality cues they are producing. They are earning a good reputation through the quality of their handmade cues. Their reputatation will increase year on year. In 10 years time I wouldn't want to be conned into buying a cue that was made in china and had been sanded down by one of these lads and had a badge stuck on it would I?

Any reputation that Will Hunt had rightfully earned over all those years counts for nothing now. He is just seen as a dishonest man who has conned the public helped along by others in the trade. He is not alone in doing this but it appears money is worth more than a mans reputation to some these days.

What I've found with these types of cues is the ash in the shaft can be very hit & miss as to quality. I had bought one of the WH Green Plates from Dave Coutts and it wasn't a BAD cue however I did find the hit to be a little dead (for lack of a better description). I've also have a couple of genuine WH Black Plates and also tried WayneG's Black Plate and I found the ash was much more responsive or at least the cue felt better and played better for me.

I think ash coming from different sources or geographical areas of the world can have a different density and a different flex and it's important to know where the shaft wood is coming from.

You shouldn't really be buying cues with the intent of making money on them in the future

Maverik54 when I put a picture up of a macassar cue in my own thread you pointed out it was not a good example ! Since then (after my little tantrum) I have stopped posting pictures in that thread, the reason I did this was purely through frustration, in fact that cue was a fairly good example of a macassar but, unfortunately through other pictures and what people expect of macassar is possibly a lighter wood with more dark stripes ? From what I gather this is usually a stripy ebony commonly used in Asia ?
This obviously is not set in stone as wood can vary from piece to piece !

I have been working on a new website over the past 6 months which offers customised cues and handmade cues, all my handmade cues will be supplied with a picture certificate to prove they are not my Thai cues simply badged as handmade, pictures will be from shaft to finish !

However I hope to base my business on Thai cues ( my customised range) as they are delivered to my door unlike driving round half the country looking for decent ash

Luvin the sacasm mate Its so hard to tell how good a cue is from a photo as to in the flesh/wood so to speak and if you remember correctly I did point out that it was the wood and not the craftsmanship I was opposed to.
Rogibear just posted a pic of his latest example with what I think is a maccassar butt (could be wrong) and that is my taste and how in my mind a piece of maccassar looks when at its best.
Lookin forward to viewing your Thai range Chrispian make sure you put the badges in straight

Sorry mate, I may come across as being sarcastic but I'm not trying to be, I've seen the cue you liked yesterday, I thought it was cocobolo myself ?
I know you were not addressing craftsmanship when you commented on my macassar cue before

Maybe someone with a little (or a lot) more experience with macassar could confirm what it is typically like ?

I rcvd recently Crispian customized cue and can compare with other "Thai", as you said, which two mates owned - Mastercue (Probutt and Exclusive). I'm not a pro or cuemaker to review/compare these cues, but feeling of Crispian's is much better on my opinion, very smooth finish! And, of course, perfect craftsmanship! So check one yourself... Here are some pics of my customized:

Crispian, I can confirm that it is definitely ebony, just can't be sure it's macassar

To be fair, a lot of threads here are about topics / issues that have been discussed before. This particular subject isn't one that has been done to death. Besides, if any information passed on is relevant in terms of allowing someone to make a more informed choice on what they spend their money on, then all the better in my view.

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                                I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
