  • Joe Davis "Special" cues ????

Anyone know the story behind these cues ??? ie why are they labelled "Special", why black plate etc, heard they may be a red plate version ??? when were these made ???
Any history or rumours even, gratefully received.
This one is in ash, machine spliced onto ebony butt, with a birdseye maple front splice with a lovely golden shaft
    Specs: 57 1/2", 10.5 ferrule, only 15.9 oz (stamped 17), 17 1/2" balance point. 30 mm butt

      found another piece
      The “Special" cue
The Joe Davis "Special" cue has a black badge and is distinguished by having two ebony and two mahogany splices which are machine cut. Despite the name, these would also have been at the cheaper end of the range and would currently be worth between £100-130.

nothing about the Red text though and does not seem to match the description/photo, ?

Yeah from 2002 i believe, but what was the purpose of these Specials ??? just to sell more cues, or was it to celebrate something Joe did ???

yep article is 2002 but I was mainly reading the "Despite the name, these would also have been at the cheaper end of the range" phrase to answer your main question, and I agree - "to sell more cues"
