  • New MAC CUE'S PLATES.

I was wanting some feedback guys.
My new black plate cues will have a no on them. The desicion i have to make is, do i no them on the plate as is done by loads of makers or do i stamp the no just above the plate similar to will hunt does, or have you any other suggestions?
Please give lots of feedback as im hoping to get plates done today or tomorrow.

Do you mean stamp the number into the actual wood? Definately not if thats the case.

Could go for a number on the plate but rather than it being 1, 2, 3 etc, how about do it in roman numerals? Would look pretty classy IMO. Love to see CXLVII instead of 147. Only gets a bit messy with 38 and 88 and 138, 188 as those require the most numerals but other than that it would certainly make your cues look different.

I like the sound of that though i think it would be better looking on a square plate...

Not sure about roman numerals, can get messing for a simple number in Arabic digits
Wood-stamps (a la old Hunt cues) can look nice (see WayneG's old photo of 336) but the stamping must be consistent and can wear down (see old weight stamps).
If you are staying with the disk badge, then a nice font and size for the number can work very well.
Personally the whole badge should be the same font else difference fonts can look messy, especially in such small area.
Also you need the font size to reflect a large number (8888) to get the placement and size just right
Do you have any images of what you are thinking so far?

Maybe use binary numbers, or even hexadecimal (base 16 ), right up to date for the computer age .

Could just be my inner geek coming out, but I actually quite like that idea

Thanks for feedback guys, I have my my badge made up already but for these number cues, I am going with a black plate and white writing.
The stamp on the wood idea was similar to what will hunt did but I was gonna stamp the no then fill it in either with clear resin or with a colour requested by client.
Is still the no on disc the winner?

I think so, though the resin idea isn't bad I just think it could be too easily worn off

Can my boys cue with the two butts be 00.5 and 001?

Who knows, if he keeps improving, he could be a snooker somebody one day?

I cant get my head around why someone would take the time and effort to lovingly plane and sand a cue to perfection and then spoil a work of art by hammering a dent in it. Could be slightly off centre, slightly deeper one side than the other etc. How many times have you seen that on old cues.
Got be on the badge for me. Perfection everytime a nice neat job.
