I stripped the lacquer off this cue to blacken the grain. I found after using an oil based filler I saw this bruising come up in the middle of the cue. It has happened before, what is causing this? DSC09378.JPG

you.
putting something on the wood that soaks in and highlights differences in, i don't know, let's call it density or cell alignment. or something.
bit like when you put dye on a piece of cheap pine or whatever. you'll see loads of dark and light spots where the colour takes more in certain areas.
i expect if you hold it one way, it doesn't show so much, but the other way stands out like a sore thumb.
