is that a lump of ebony at the end?
is it going to be what has been called in the past a "butt stub end"?

    • looks like the front splice is just shorter than the ebony butt.

Is the different coloured burl the sapwood ? Like my mini butt from Trevor ?

      • Its not a repair. The bit at the bottom is the veneer sticking out It was longer than the splice.

This taken immediately after planing and scraping no sanding yet. hence it still looks a little rough.

Correct its the sapwood. It still has burl in it though

I like the look of it, looks natural which is how wood should be. Too many of us are always looking for the perfect figured piece of wood for a splice or the blackest piece of ebony when you can have something that looks completely unique which is what wood is.

Look at the mini butt Trevor White made for Billabong. In my opinion much better than a standard mini butt. It's nice to see something something different.

Also must say Adam you have a rare talent and I hope you find time to continue your cue making.
