I have huge huge amounts of respect for anyone that turns their hand to something outside their skill set that requires patience and the ability to pick up on new techniques and learn new tricks. well done mate and good luck

I currently have two cues on the go at the minute, being spliced with black ebony. I am definitely putting a front splice of thuya with maple veneer on one and undecided about the other. May end up doing the same.

Next few cues nearly finished, just awaiting final splices. Picked some exotics up today for them, amboyna, red mallee and some pale moon ebony

can i be nosey and ask where you got exotics from,at a guess america lol

From the first pic in the thread it looks like you've got the grain of the Ash wood at an exaggerated "skewed" angle, which would explain the huge number of chevrons. Is that the case RogiBear?

Afraid not, the shaft just came out that way with lots of chevrons.

can i interfere for a second with what might be a useful tip. don't start using that amboyna etc yet it is expensive stuff and hard to work with if you have only made a few cues, i can tell you from experience it will end in tears!

sure, I take it you mean from a planing pov and tear out? I have a low angle jack with high angle blade which I was hoping would do the trick.
