  • Should I change my cue ?

    Hello

I´ve got a queue about 20 years old that did cost app. 100£ at the time. I´ve always been happy about it, but now my practice partner has gotten a new cue with all sorts of extensions, and I don´t have the possibility of adding extensions on my cue. I must admit, that I´ve become a bit "jealous", and have started thinking about buying a new one myself, but in general I don´t find the need for a new cue to be so big if it´s only about adding extensions. I know theres a few coaches and cuemakers and offcause lot of players in here, so I would like to hear, what you all think of pro and cons about it.

If you play well, why change it? Aftermarket push-on extensions are cheap fixes.

If you do buy a new one, don't get rid of the old one straight away. You may find you play better with the old cue.

Can't you just add a base joint for that if its a one piece cue. Surely wont affect the cue that much

why specifically a 1pc? you can have a butt joint added even if it is a 3/4 or 1/2 as well, no discrimination here

Rane, what you are going through is purely natural - or as natural along with most TSF members that is
My advice is the same as above, if you play well with it and you still like the cue then stay with it.
I have a cue I used for 25 years and until TSF thought nothing about it that much.
I made up my mind that I would get a snooker cue (the old one had a small 8.2mm ferrule and was not brilliant for snooker) with a 9.5mm ferrule, since I got the new cue my snooker game has improved.
So, if (IF) you feel you must get an new cue do it for the right reason and not just jealousy and "keeping up with the Jones'"

            Thanks for your responses.

Do you know if there´s any specific cueproducer I should contact, or do they all add butt joints (My cue is 1/2)?

I think I´ll try to persuade my practice partner to borrow his cue for a whole evening, not just a few shots to get an idea of the possibility to improve, if I get a new cue.

I would think nearly all cuemakers can do the work you want, i.e. add a butt joint, and on their websites they show how much they charge, or (if no website) contact them and ask.
Word of advice, if you send to a cue-guy for the butt joint, get the extensions from that person as well there-and-then, this ensures that the joints all match

              What extensions are you after?
6" mini - I would say this would be a must
telescopic - check your case, what can you fit in? or you maybe after a new case as well

Also to the other question, adding a butt joint should not affect the feel of your old cue
[also, being a 1/2, you may only have to post the butt half - save on postage but check with whomever you are going to send the cue to ]

No. I´m not certain there are any. Snooker is a very small sport in Denmark, and there are no danish cuemakers. For carom Buffalo has been standing strong for many years.
