Well you make grand statements with no specifics to support them but if you're going to pose this question surely you can offer an answer as well?

I think it would depend on what equipment you use. Clearly old-fashioned hand-plane would take longer than an electric one? I know of one cue maker who has some high-tec stuff which turns down a shaft in next to no time at all.

Yep which sounds consistent with the claims that you'd need to charge 500 or more to make a profit on these. But I wonder what this skeleton is he's talking about? It suggested to me that cues don't take as long many of us think. Maybe it's in relation to how much time is really put into shaft preparation these days.

i spend a lot more than 8 hours.

however, i do things my way, and will spend a lot of time on some things that can theoretically be done in much less time.

but i've certainly seen/fixed a lot of cues that clearly have little quality time spent on them.

you see some of the people who have been accused on this forum while i was away on holiday I do know for a fact are either not remotely guilty or largely not guilty and that many of the assumptions people have made are definitely wrong, however it is not my place to police the entire cue making world!
Not many cue makers have come on here and come clean as to what they do and dont do , i take my hat off to Trevor for repeatedly coming here and stating what processes are involved in his cues from start to finish , so if you want a cue that is entirely made from the cuemaker and want assurance as to exactly what your getting for your money then Trevor White should be on the top of your list . Of course there are others that do the same but Trev has repeated his process on numerous occasions .

no way can you "make a cue" in 5-8 hours what you using superglue!

I was talking about the actual time involved not making it in one day from start to finish .

Anyone shed any light on how long to make a cue ?

Depends on whether you include the shaft tapering or not. If you exclude that 5-8 hours probably isn't far off if all is done by hand, obviously more complex designs will take longer.

Takes me 15 to 20 hours, I take things slow and steady, I do everything .... selecting the boards, ripping, tapering, splicing etc etc etc, but that time does not include gluing times or the time spent at the lumber yard but I treat that as a perk, walking around selecting wood is time consuming but I enjoy it ... Always on the look-out for something special!

Hopefully I'll be going to check out some Romanian Ash boards soon, it's heavier than American and English Ash so I'd like to do some tests with weight and flexibility ... just seein' if this would work for 'heavier' naturally weighted cues, worth a test I reckon.

Yea, it's a fine line when it comes to 'throw' but I don't mind buying a couple of planks for testing, there's always something new to learn, for me anyways lol
