Agreed, John it looks a lot like cold and/or damp damage to me, as there are even signs of mold !

Quite often when this happens some of the splicing can come loose on the older cues, and then they make a nasty clonking noise when striking the cue ball. Joint problems can also arise with the 3/4 cues, and I've even known the butts to swell slightly leading to the weight inside becoming dislodged, which means more work drilling and replacing the weight and joints.

It could be that it's ok and just needs a good clean, but from experience I think it's more likely it will need some work doing to sort it out. Oh, and I've heard the one about the cue being perfectly straight before ! ....

In my area there are several players who have JP cues from the 1980s - none have numbers or the post code on them. I have seen Ultimate cues from 1990 that didn't have numbers on them - the first Ultimate I saw with a number on is my own - which is a fabulous cue with magnificent grain - and I ordered this in 1996.

I have to ask . . . what number is it? Pics please!
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Funny looking butt, almost looks like macassar ebony or rosewood. And Christ those joints are hum dinging, looks like it was retrieved from a sunken car.

Wonder when they started actually numbering the ultimate's? Initially the badge just said "Ultimate Cue" then at some point they started assigning them numbers.

I spoke to JP about numbering - he led me to believe that he may have stopped numbering them for a short while. Someone I know ordered an Ultimate several weeks before I ordered mine in 1996 - his came down unnumbered and mine numbered.

Where the hell has that Parris cue been stored for it to get in that condition. It must have been stored in a damp place for a long period of time. I know it is quite a rare cue being number 247, but it has certainly not been loved!!!

i like it to be in that state - you can't fake that! and 10 minutes with some wire wool and some mike wooldridge cue oil and it will be superb!

I like the cue, I was just worried that storing it badly might have damaged the wood. i.e. damp may have warped it etc...

Do you think that is all it needs?

                            Cheers.

i would not guarantee it but i would expect just needs a rub down and oil, looks ok to me worst case scenario it needs the joint flushed and a refinish maybe £50 total.
