Overpriced Barracuda cue :-\

£285 is the current bid on this cue, you can buy the same cue brand new from Craftsman cues for £120! I'm also highly sceptical that its genuine ebony also as I own the Barracuda Kirkham cue and the ebony is definitely dyed as I discovered when I stripped the laquer off to refinish it, something I'm almost certain the buyer will find with this cue. However my Kirkham is a good playing cue so its not all doom and gloom lol

Aye could just be the seller bidding it up but as you say if its a genuine bidder they're getting royaly screwed :-(

This cue is a modern cue not an original and as you say £120 new retail . I see modern Barracudas on Australian websites for ridiculous prices and , apart from shipping distance , cant for the life of me see why. I have a 1982 Barracuda Gold Medal that is definately 100 % ebony butted and a Barracuda Professional , rosewood butt and totally agree with you , they are great playing cues .

My Kirkham is a modern version also, which is probably Chinese made, that's why I doubt this cue will be genuine black ebony, almost definitely it will be dyed. £285 for that cue is madness

The joint on the cue on e-bay is wrong as well . Vintage Barracuda Kirkhams are often sold between £75-£125 , Tournaments are rarer and the Old Masters are rarer still .Neither of the two aforementioned cues would make the money that this modern " replica " is at the moment. I am not suggesting that a modern Barracuda is a poorer quality cue , horses for courses and all that , but I dont think they will attract as loyal a cult following or retain the value of one of the originals.At the end of the day , the value of a cue is a personal value that the owner puts on it , nothing more .Perceived value is a strange animal and has been commented on many times on here in the past.Knowing what this cue is and the fact that a glut of these was sold in the UK on E-Bay within the last 12 months or so , I personally wouldnt give more than £100 for it , as the package stands and I would want postage included.

the quality of the Chinese Barracuda cues isn't as good as like I said the ebony is dyed, my modern Kirkham is a nice playing cue and i don't see any reason why that tournament cue won't be, but its not worth anywhere near what its selling for! new £120, not many cues will be worth more 2nd hand than they're new!

personally I like the joints on the modern Barracuda's the fact the mini butt screws into the shaft joint aswell as butt joint makes it handy when the space around the table is restricted, more useful for pool but still handy for some venues for snooker
