errr ... quite often jrc ... even with a mini-butt, most players would struggle to reach the length of the table (say white 4 inches from the far cushion) and no-one could reach it if there is a ball underneath where you need to lean over ...

I've played about 30 competitive UK 8ball frames this season and probably used the rest 3 or 4 times ... I had to refuse one shot during an away game because they didn't have a spider rest available - chose a different shot instead ...
    Exactly right mate

well yes I have been playing pool for 26 years, I meant the playing area, but true I should have said 7ft the outside measurements, I have to say I cant remember the last time I used a rest but that's just me.

Fair enough, but DandyA imo summed up where a rest or mini butt can be needed. As I said its not needed that often but handy to have a mini butt for the odd occasion they are needed

I've never got my willy out and measured one jrc ... but it's pub pool tables I'm talking about and I think they are officially called 7x4 feet tables with a playing area of 6x3 feet ...

at 6ft 1in I still certainly need to use a rest occasionally as explained in my post above ...

Pub tables are a 6ft playing surface, the tables are actually 7ft. If you ordered a 6ft table which you do sometimes find in pubs the surface is only 5ft, standard size for a pool table though is 7ft with a playing surface of 6x3

Used mine twice last season but used it a lot more screwed into the shaft (3/4cue) to make a shorter cue when room was tight through obstructions lol

Haha slate is seriously heavy, I hate those small tables, balls always end up clumped together from the break

Mine was in my front room, not really big enough to play a proper game, but was ok for a bit of practice, 2 of the corners I needed a 2 foot cue to play shots lol

The slate was ok it was the rest of it!, we had to carried it up 6 steps up to my front door that was a killer!. it wasn't the frames weight so much, more the awkwardness or it.

you little poser Dave ... I've got a Welsh Pool cue that does that - the telescopic mini-butt can fit the butt socket or the shaft but I don't use it to play UK pool ... I use my much cheaper Cannon Scorpion 3 piece for pool ...

probably mostly because it's got a rubber bung up it's butt (unlike the one with the butt socket) so I can tap my cue on the floor to acknowledge a good shot by my opponent without fear of damaging it ...
