  • Loose cue?

Hello everyone, just looking for some information here... Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated.

One of my older cues seems to have developed a loosened part. It's a 3/4 cue with an old quick release joint. What basically happens now is that, whenever a power shot is played, there is a slight but perceptible movement inside the cue. It's basically in the same direction of the shot and adds an unwanted "second" forward momentum. After some trial and error, I'm fairly sure it's originating from the butt end and is either of two options:

    1) The brass joint is slightly loose and could be moving on contact when the cue hits a ball heavily
    2) There is indeed a loose "part" inside the butt that has developed some slight space to drift

Are either of these likely or even possible as causes? And if so, would anyone have any suggestions on DIY repair? Detailed steps would help... Cheers and thanks in advance

It sounds like a loose weight inside the butt of the cue, not a DIY fix tho, what make of cue is it ??

it's an old O'Min. was thinking of fiddling around with it to see if I could get it fixed. I do have access to workshop/tools just not familiar with then inner workings of cues

first run a strong magnet over butt to find out if weight is steel or iron, then if you have access to a lathe you can drill into bottom of butt,if weight is lead it will drill out if steel you will have to drill with either a small drill till you locate weight then a bigger drill so weight can drop out.

thanks jim, that's a start. are the weights normally glued in or something? Or should I pad to minimize movement?
