    I have a Walter Lindrum , handmade world champion cue.(break 4137)
It is 57 1/2 inches long, but the tip is 8 mm,with a pigeon ring. I would have to cut 2 1/2 inches off to get a 9 mm tip.
I am loath to do this, but I want to play snooker with this cue.It is generally agreed that 8 mm is too small.
I am not tall and could cope with a 55 1/2 inch cue,but I feel that would drastically reduce it,s value,
and it,s useability if I passed it on.Opinions?

yep, most probably, as most short cues are less value than "standard" length - reduced market.
Are you sure the ferrule (pigeon ring) is 8mm? seems very small unless it has already been modified in the past.
Not sure how much the cue is worth as it is, anyone?
If you loathed to do it, then don't

well maybe as it is already "mutilated"
more may not alter is value.
Question, you say hand made, is that handspliced butt and front splices, or machine butt spliced, etc?
hoping someone with value experience will popon soon.
          all the best

You sure ??? I am pretty certain the 4137 break cues are machine spliced onto the shaft
With a 8 mm tip, the cue is worthless as a collector's cue, so if it plays well then go ahead and chop it up

Is the ebony above the front splices pointed or rounded.

I have been collecting cues for at least 30 years.I have about 18-20 cues, all ash, mostly one piece,
including a Mannock,2 Tom Newman 1370 cues,a machine spliced Melbourne Inman "picture "cue,to name a few.
I do know the difference.the badge on my W Lindrum cue reads down the butt not across like the one shown.
I would like to post a photo, but my lack of computer skills do not allow.

Havn't seen that front splice design before on one of those cues, not saying it's wrong, just not seen it

yes JRC, I see what you mean, the ones I have seen have only has plain wood front splice - not burr wood - on a single thin veneer - not multiple.
                              have a look at
http://cuesnviews.com/cuegallery (middle row page 1 3rd along from left)

anyone seen one likes Newport's before, please increase our knowledge

also Newport, to me the photo of the badge shows a gap between splice and the badge
