dent in cue

I have a line (dent) in my cue, I guess the previous owner wacked it on the table. I was told I could steam it out? How do I do this?.

You could try rubbing it with a glass , i,ve done this in the past with good results depnding how deep it is .

I saw that on youtube using a beer bottle. Gave it a try, perhaps slightly better but still there.

Could try the cotton bud trick - few drips of water and tape it over the dent with masking tape. Leave for a few hours and the dent should swell out. If not few more drips of water and leave for a few more hours or even overnight. Will need to smooth with very fine sand paper and apply a coat or 2 of oil.

Damp cloth an iron. Put a small portion of the cloth over dent and apply heat gently to that area with tip of iron. Check often. It will probably 'dry' the wood, so a suitable finish would be required.

lines are much harder than dents. what sort of cue is it?

Its a quite old Riley that I was given by a old fellow, he is no longer playing. I don't know how old as I'm not any kind of expert, it has a 8.5 mm tip. I enjoy it very much and would like to keep it in good condition.

all the most effective methods as people have stated will require the re finishing of the cue. but if you tie a soft cloth over the dent and pour boiling water over it that usually does the trick but cue will then need to be cut back and oiled i expect.

It's amazing how many methods there is for wood dent repair, have tried the cotton bud trick on an old cue with good results, let us know how you get on...

Thanks to all of you for helping me. I have fixed it!!! Q tip, boiling water and tape. Now rubbing oil on to it.
