Why wouldn't this cue be worth more than just another JP ultimate number 10-anonymous? Each to their own but I'd rather have this than two ultimates.
Mind you, if you look at his buying history you may find an answer to other threads, such as "any replacement for beeswax"

Hi Everyone.
I was told that there were lots of comments about my cue. One of the comments mentions i am a brand ambassador for Maximus Cues. Well in some way that's correct i suppose.
I first met them at the 6 reds last year in Thailand and was very very impressed with the quality of the build. I was really amazed by the sheer volume of differing timbers for the butt splicing. They made some cues for me to try out but silly me was experimenting with 9 ball style ferrules just to see if they had possible any playing virtues over our brass ferrules. I tried several out but preferered to stick to the brass. Consequently to replace them now with brass ferrules would render these cues too short.
A few months before this years 6 reds i asked if they would make me 2 Hendry style Powerglide Connoisseur cues with Maple shafts. My favourite design ever. They made me 2 of the finest looking cues i have ever seen with Maple shafts to die for. During the event several players saw these cues and asked if the company would make cues for them. They had already told me that if any other professional players wanted cues then they would be thrilled to make cues for them. That is why on their Facebook site there are many photos of players with Ton and Tuk from Maximus at their cue stand. I did manage to have 6 or more players request cues from them including of course John Higgins.
I played the tournament with my exisiting cue but having changed over to my new ones upon my return i felt it right to sell my Tony glover Ye Olde Ash. That way i can focus on changing to my Connoisseur replicas.
One post on this thread mentions that i know more about cues than anyone. I like that one but i suppose i have played with more different cues than most i do admit! I just love cues as it is the main tool of my trade so to speak.
I started collecting cues about the age of 16 and grew up near Trevor White who started making cues for me over 20 years ago. I learned a great deal about cuemaking and different timbers from Trev and coupled with the 100s and 100s of cues i have collected and re-furbished over the years i guess in a modest way i do know an awful lot about cues and cuemaking, it's true.
I sincerely hope that i will never change cues again now and i must say "Why would i" as these Connoisseur cues are so stunning and have an unbeatable quality of selected Timber in them.
Anyway i want to say thanks for the interest in my cue on Ebay and good luck to anyone bidding on it.

Uum, your probably right there. I have changed cues lots of times but my cues looks different every time whereas others have changed cues to ones that look like their old ones and so it goes unnoticed. There are a good few pro's who have probably had as many cues as i.
On thing i have never done is have 5 different cues within a short space of time though. Because of my knowledge of cues i can't remember the last time i had a cue made that was not usable to me. This is because when you have a strong shaft it is reliable. Wherever you hit the ball at any speed it will go where your aiming. The only factors then are ferrule wall thickness and/or ferrule size that adjusts the deflection/squirt of the cue ball when sidespin is applied. I always insist on a ferrule wall of no more than 1mm. Thicker than this then they can throw incorrectly with sidespin.
I always have cues made bigger than my standard spec because of my wordworking and finishing skills acquired over 20 years i am able to adjust taper and ferrule sizes to suit my ideals of how i wish a cue to play.
My Ye Olde Ash cue has a shaft that is very stiff compared to most stiff shafts but it does have a fraction of give in it. Too stiff then it can also cause problems with a lack of feel and also deflection with sidespin. A shaft should have some give in it but in my opinion not too much so that with power shots the cueball does not dictate to the cue and bend the shaft too much on impact. This can cause you to miss over distance when you are sure you have hit the ball well.
Sorry i rambled on a bit there!!

Just noticed that you only have 5 posts. You need 10 to post pics and PM.Last edited by mythman69; 26 September 2013, 07:28 AM.My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Can i ask a question from a rank amature, why did you have so many cues? where you looking for "the one" or was it just a case of liking cues, i think if i had the money i would just go mental, lol.
Its very nice to have another pro on the forum, welcome. This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Hi,
Yeah, unlike many players and pro's included i never changed cues because i convinced myself something was wrong with my existing cue. Because i am as close to a cue expert regards playability of a cue as one could be i always changed because i have such a love for well made cues and whenever i tried cues it was never long before i felt comfortable with a new cue.
I have never blamed a cue for bad form but changing does give you fresh zest or enthusiasm and makes you commit to hard practise and that ia basically it in a nutshell for me.
Basically i have changed because i never felt it was difficult to do so provided a new cue was similar in many ways to my existing cue. Weight and balance and taper and suchlike may vary a little but so long as the new cue threw similarly wish sidespin i was always quick to adapt.
