Just a quick reply to Dave Walton's Question..

The difference between the 2nd Edition and 3rd Edition Connoisseur is basically the badge style.

The 2nd Edition badge that replaced the earlier red enamel chrome plated copper badge was a beaded plastic badge with a bronze foil insert with the Lion logo and the words Connoisseur Cue written within a square border.

The 3rd Edition is a dark brown or black 40-42mm square block attached to the base of the front splice and has a water slide decal logo of the PowerGlide lion at the top and Connoisseur in fancy script and PowerGlide written underneath.

This 3rd Edition style to me looks very nice indeed and is probably my own personal favourite.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Dom. What do you think of the new connoisseur? Not too keen myself!

Final price GBP 720.00 (Approximately AU $1,246.14).

        Lovely cue!

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
        I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

          Lovely cue!

i don't think that is very expensive for such a nice looking cue.

            I agree . . .

If I had any money I would have bid on it too.

I do wish to collect PowerGlide brochures and any paperwork ephemera or rare PowerGlide stuff relating to the company so if anybody has anything like this then please do inform me. It has to be pre 2000 in date though so anything between lets say 1970s - 2000 in date and i would be very interested. I could also be interested in original Connoisseur Cues although i do have an early 1st edition in Maple and an Ash 3rd Edition, both 1 piece. I would like to acquire a 2nd Edition Connoisseur which would have the beaded plastic badge with a bronze foil insert with Connoisseur Cue written on it.

DSCN0307.jpgDSCN0309.jpg. Hi Dom,heres a couple of pics to look at hopefully theyve uploaded. These are from a catalogue i sent away for as a lad in roughly 1986 or 1987. I always hoped at that time to get the Purist 1pc or if miracles happened to get the Rex Williams original numbered 1pc hand spliced plain ebony/mature ash with ivorene badge.

This never happened at the time as the Purist was well over 100 punt here and as for the Rex replica wouldve been around 300punt. As it happened i ended up getting a 1pc Excalibur M/S indian rosewood/mature ash which i still use today as my main playing cue. Also i managed to get a near new 1pc Purist a couple of years ago.

In my opinion Powerglide cues of this 70s 80s vintage are as good if not better players than a lot of the cues today. Both these cues are as straight as the day they were bought and others i know of who also have Powerglides of the same age are also dead straight. This cant be said for some of the more expensive modern cues for some reason. What ive always noticed about them is the quality of the wood especially the ash shafted is definately better than most ash nowadays.

Sorry i cant sell the brochure as im also quite interested in collecting other Powerglide catalogues or similar. I will upload the inside of the brochure when i get some zzzzzz, best of luck with the rest of the season.

                  Thanks for the photos...

I do have a photo of this very brochure from Dave Smith the cuesnviews guy. He won't part with it either though.

                  Thanks

Any Forum Member Buy Dom's Ye Old Ash?

I would have been very interested if the Butt wasnt 31 1/2mm as thats very thick but i know Dom likes thicker Butt on his Cues.
