also was going to say that, like you describe, sometimes both cues can sometimes feel like they are not my cue, either they feel very light or oddly very heavy and I cannot do anything with them and I have to look closely to make sure I didn't accidently pick up someone else's cueUp the TSF! :snooker:

I have read that "some" pool players (UK pool) like a lighter cue (even down to 13oz range), I suppose to give them "the touch" for gentle shots sometimes required in the game with the lighter balls.
Personally I find that it is more down to cueing technique than cue weight to get these gentle shots.
But each to their own

spot on Dean, I've always used a 16oz old cue with a 10mm tip and players who tell me they can do more with heavier cues and smaller tips can't play shots I can, it's all down to personal preference but most of all, ability and mental state of mind. I'm not playing anymore but did get a new cue with modern spec - 18.2 and 9.65 but it only took a few sessions to get used to. There will be a big sale of cues and related stuff on soon from me.

I believe the majority of the pros are in the 18oz range which seems to be the norm these days. A few years back, perhaps due to the billiards influence of yesteryear the cues would normally be in the 16-17oz range as billiard players generally used around 16oz.
My playing cue is 18.3oz although I have a hard time noticing any difference between a 17.5oz cue and an 18.5oz cue although I can feel the difference with a 20oz cue.
I'm really in a quandry as my own table is very fast but the club tables we use for our tournaments are very slow and a heavier cue would probably help with those slow cloths.

Currently using an 18.25oz cue, have got a few cues, lightest is 17.7, heaviest 18.3. So long as they are around that weight I'm fairly comfortable.
For me though its the balance that is more important, I have an 18oz cue that balances at 16" yet it feels heavier than the others because the balance is more in the butt end. I prefer the balance at 17" - 17.5" as this I think is about the perfect point.
