Glass like finish on ebony butt.

Just a quick question for the cue makers on the site.

After looking at some cue pics on here and some elsewhere i was just wondering how some people manage to get a glass like finish on there ebony butted cues ? The best cues i have seen with this finish are from Andy Travis and Crispain Jones.

The top makers don't usually go for a glass like finish...

If you want it glass like then oil the life out of it and rub rub rub to an inch of your life over a few months and you'll get a build up of oil which ill give the glass like finish you want... eventually....

Of course the finish has to be top notch to start with to achieve this....

Oil and elbow grease can get results although too much oil and not enough elbow grease gets leaves a sticky residue. There are a couple of products that can be used to get a good seal and shine but Cally is right that the quality finish needs to be there to start with.

I can get that affect if I use 6000g up to 12000g Emery cloth + lots of elbow grease! but find it can get a bit sticky when it's that shiny, so tend to stop now at 4000g at the most, still plenty of shine and silky smooth to boot, not that I'm a maker lol
